Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

I own a white 2022 MY Virtus and was in a similar dilemna last year. Went to see the Kushaq, liked the Slavia but loved the Virtus. In my immediate family, my one brother in law bought the Taigun while another brother in law bought the Virtus. VW after sales is slightly better than Skoda and VW provides better kits in their car. All of us felt Virtus is better looking than anything else at least in the sub 30 lakhs segment.

Almost 80% of my driving has been outside the city across various geographies -- hills, ghats, straight highways, jungles. The Virtus just pulled through everything like it was nothing. The higher ground clearance provides that safety net of not scraping anything from the bottom. It is a bomb to drive in any terrain.

Just be sure to take the extended warranty and the service package from the best VW dealer in your city. You pay upfront but save around 5k in servicing costs each year.

Let me try reassure you here with my Virtus Comfortline riding on Lenso alloys. I specifically opted for the base variant (as I too was okay with the feature omissions), but also because sans the chrome and with a good set of alloys, it looks properly sporty and in some aspects reminded me of the Jetta GLI.

Good luck with your purchase!

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

Thanks everyone for the replies. @Ravi, your car looks ravishing
My Ford in the mean time, did not want to go easy on me and the AC compressor clutch gave up and i am getting it done as we speak. This is further pushing me to finalise the Virtus and i will mist probably get one during Dussehra. BTW, i was quoted 15.5L for the 1.0 Manual Top Line. Is that a good price? All other packages would be extra.

My bad, i was quoted around 15.5L for Highline and not the Topline variant.

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

Even me too in same conundrum. Planning to replace our preowned 2014 Honda City iDTEC Diesel bought in 2017 sometime next year as it has run 175k Kms and also since its turning 10 next year, decided to replace it with an AT since the car will be driven within city limits most of the time.

Considering Virtus 1L TSI AT or Slavia 1L TSI AT as 1.5 DSG is expensive in terms of pricing (but love that engine and drive) and since the car will be driven on highways occasionally, 1L TSI AT would suffice for our needs. Another option we are considering apart from Virtus/Slavia is Verna.

Despite having a Taigun 1L TSI Topline MT within our family, which has run more than 45k Kms till date in 1.5 years, I'd prefer going for Virtus anyday as I find this comfortable over Taigun/Kushaq and more than that, its a sedan. Also, Taigun/Kushaq has poor rear seat space that makes uncomfortable for 3 people and my folks prefer our Honda City's rear seat anyday over Taigun.

And, having driven both 1L TSI MT and AT, I find AT better than MT in terms of low end and also, there isn't much of difference between MT and AT in terms of mileage (our Taigun gives 8-10 Kmpl or sometimes 12 Kmpl in city traffic despite being MT).

I'm in exactly the same situation. I've got the Kushaq 1.5 Monte Carlo and the Virtus GT+/Edge shortlisted.

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

Well, after going through every one's suggestions, I finally took the step and booked a Virtus Highline 1.0 MT last week (September 2023 manufactured) and will be making the full payment tomorrow. I am planning on taking delivery in the first week of January 2024. The 1.5 MT (Available only in GT Plus) was too much money over the 1.0 MT Highline. So the VW accessories I selected were -
1. Full accessory kit.
2. Seat Covers.
3. 4 Doors chrome strips/ guards.
4. Boot Spoiler.
5. Trunk Mat.
6. Rear window (the big one) blind.

Also included was the Zero Dep insurance and I added the 5th and 6th year extended warranty.

Congrats on the new upcoming ride! Be sure to a PDI before paying the full payment please! If you don't, the dealer might take you for a spin then!

Can't wait to see a write-up on the Virtus! I'm a die-hard fan of the Virtus! Yet to get to see the 1.5L GT in action, though the 1.0L did not fail to impress!

Cheers buddy!

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

@Nova - A detailed write-up will follow as soon as I take delivery. I will definitely do the PDI myself. I guess everyone has a unique view on what they want in their cars, and I was shocked to see so little relevant and useful content on the Virtus (apart from the million showroom variant-wise walkarounds on YouTube). I might use this thread to post the updates going forward.

Honestly, I did find very less videos on YouTube regarding the Virtus, most of them being press cars! The other is just random videos which, like you mentioned are variant-wise walkarounds!

Waiting to hear more from ya bud, also advance congrats on the new Virtus!!

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

Hi everyone. I have taken the delivery of my Virtus today and should say, I am absolutely blown away by the tractability of the 1.0 MT. I drove around 50Kms in the city today, and initial impressions were great.

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

6 Months update - Virtus Highline 1.0 MT. Got the first (@600 kms) and second free inspection (@4.1K Kms) done at VW Khajaguda. Everything was ok there, apart from the final cleaning of the car. During the 1st inspection, they left grease stains on the seats. Showed it to the Service Advisor and got them cleaned. Second time around, there were oily hand stains on the hood. Didn't bother to get them cleaned there. Some cheap, oily cleaner was used for the interiors. Cleaned everything myself after going home. Billed items overall, by choice were -
1. Underbody coating during 1st inspection.
2. Wruth engine protect thingy during 2nd inspection.
3. Wheel alignment apparently done during the 2nd inspection
I wanted them to do a wheel rotation, balancing and alignment, but they ended up just doing the wheel alignment, stating why spend money as everything looks good.

My hunt for underhood insulation is yet to be fulfilled. Boodmo is useless, as I had to cancel 2 different orders, for 2 different part numbers, from 2 different suppliers, as the delivery date kept postponing. VW advisor says, they tried to source the part, but are not able to as the pert does not show up in their system. Left it for now. Got a 3M 'Teflon' coating done form a local detailer.

Had the chance to go on a small road trip to Bangalore after the 1st inspection and can report, the car performed like a gem. The trip was around 1.25k Kms during peak summer (43 degrees centigrade outside temperatures) and did not find any issues with the AC cooling. The overall efficiency was 13.5 KMPL with cruise control set just below the 2nd speed chime. Got the chance to push the car on deserted stretches and the car felt solid. I use XP95 only and maybe try E20 once in the future.
No negatives to report so far, and I still feel that this is the most bang for buck one can get in 2024 (in this price range). Of course, there are a few things that would have been 'nice to have', but I am not complaining . Willing to do a 1st person driving experience write up, if anyone is interested.

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

XP100 - So I wanted to try E20 this time when refuelling, but ended up getting 20 litres of XP 100 @160/- per litre. My butt dyno feels a good increase in the bottom end, or may be it is a placebo. Just wanted to give it a try. Don't think I can sustain this, giving the ridiculous price jump form XP 95 to XP 100.

@mods - can you please edit this thread's title as 'The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma - Bought the Virus 1.0MT' or anything you feel would be suitable

Re: The Skoda Kushaq or VW Virtus dilemma

Just got the 15K Kms Service done as the car was nearing it's 1 year mark. Drove 6,685Kms in 11 Months. Got the service done at PPS VW SVC Raidurg.
Bought the 4 Year SVC pack at 27K. Additional things which I asked to be done, apart from the 15K service -

1. Hood Insulation - Finally got it.
2. Tyre Rotation, Alignment and Balancing
3. Engine Bay chemical wash - Wruth
4. Interior 3M Germ Clean treatment

Apart from the hood insulation (which is not a service), the rest of them were a complete waste of money. Sat for almost 2 hrs from 5.40PM (was confirmed car would be ready by 5.30/6PM, hence went at that time) till 7.50PM at the SVC to get the vehicle.

Wheels - My FR tyre has a tiny part of a puncture strip sticking out since some time, and it was still there while picking up the car. I asked them whey the tyres were not rotated, and they tried bluffing. They even went as far as to say, that for a 4 tyre car (since the 5th is a smaller size spare) it is not necessary . I did not accept and got even more doubtful that they might not have touched the tyres. Went to the car and checked again, then I saw that the wheel weights were not touched - They tried to bluff again and tell me that they will do only if required . After waiting for 2hrs, did not have the energy nor interest to argue, simply asked them to remove all related charges from the bill, which they did.

Interiors - Asked them not to apply any polish. And since i opted for the 3M treatment, i assumed it would be done comprehensively. When i arrived at 5.30PM, i was told the car was in line for washing and then the interior treatment would be done. Giving the car at 9AM i assumed everything would be done by now. So i told the advisor to skip the interior cleaning and that i'll get it done outside. 30 mins later, while i was restlessly walking about, the advisor says that the interior cleaning has already been done and only the external washing was pending. Couple of years back, when we got the same service done from 3M, it took them around 2 hours to finish it. Curious to see if they actually did anything, i walked into the wash bay, not to find a single 3M product there. My sears were already moist, but i don't think and '3M Germ Cleaning' was done. Only found some cheap foam spray bottles, which i seen them use the previous time to remove some stains from my seats and i assume they used the same to wipe my seats with a cloth.

Engine Wash - Since i do not let any one wash or clean under the hood, i agreed for the 'Wruth Engine Chemical Wash'. Since it was dark (7.30PM) when I took delivery, i couldn't see clearly. I was more distracted by the hood insulator. Yesterday, i just opened the bonnet to see if they actually did any cleaning, but it looked like it was washed with some plain water, as only the loose dust was gone. The grime and the polish/ engine dressing form the last service were still there.

Lesson learnt. Big time. Since the service cost was covered by the 4 year SVC package, the additional 4K i paid went down the drain Will give the car at VW only for servicing and nothing else, going forward. Got the WA, WB and rotation done outside at Stunnerz, Madhapur the next day.
