Top 5 cars with the best NVH insulation below ₹25 Lakh price tag

We all love a silent cabin. Don't we? Being Indians we have all kinds of sounds on the roads and most of them filter into the cabins of majority of cars. Depending on the road conditions, vibrations are also felt in the cabin. I am particularly affected by creaks, squeaks, thuds in my car and almost actively look for them if I hear a new one. Our family has owned Mahindras since almost 30 years and now we have the 2019 XUV500 and a 2023 Maruti Suzuki Swift. I do not expect anything from the Swift because it just wins me in the driving feel, handling and engine smoothness However, the XUV did not impress me much.

Just out of curiosity I thought we could create a list of Top 5 cars with the best NVH insulation in the most popular budget of below 25 Lakh rupees based on the experiences of TBhp members.

This could be useful for prospective buyers.

Elevate NVH is extremely bad in comparison. I would rate the Carens/Verna/Sonet etc. higher than Elevate.

Even MG's Hector/Astor, most EVs have excellent NVH.

Do we have separate list for petrols and diesels?

I have got both 2016 Jazz and 2023 Verna 1.5 Turbo . On NVH Verna > Jazz. In sports mode there is a sweet engine note for Verna which can be heard inside the cabin

The VW Virtus would be my pick. Absolute insulation from road and traffic noises.

Mahindra Marazzo has excellent NVH especially road noise insulation.

I had a 4th gen Honda city as well and if you drive the Honda and the Marazzo back to back on the same road, the Marazzo's vastly superior road noise insulation becomes very apparent.

If we are excluding engine noise.
XUV700 Diesel > Honda Jazz > WagonR but there are no surprises here

Re: Top 5 cars with the best NVH insulation below ₹25 Lakh price tag

I think a broad sweep of cars under 25L may be contentious in the context of NVH.
Amongst petrol sedans, I think the 2023 Verna has excellent NVH, especially the turbo DCT on sparse country roads at 60-70 kph, where it typically ticks less than 1500 rpm. The Honda City too is almost as good.
Among the hatchbacks I will go out on a limb and say the Swift 2024 has great NVH for a 3 cylinder engine. You can barely hear the motor except during hard accelerator and even then, the engine note is sporty. Even on a steady highway run at 80-90 kph, the car runs at 2500 rpm or thereabouts, and the overall noise level is comfortable.

Re: Top 5 cars with the best NVH insulation below ₹25 Lakh price tag

The MG Hector Diesel is absolutely silent inside the cabin even at speeds of 80-90 kmph where the engine spins at about 1600 RPM. At slow speeds in lower gears there is some engine noise but it is not intrusive. For a big car with a 2.0L diesel engine, the NVH levels are excellent. The music from the Infinity speakers on relaxed highway drives really gives you a feel of calmness especially due to the sound insulation from outside. The Hector petrol CVT should be even more better on the NVH front as compared to Diesel.

I have both Grand i10 and Elevate. Elevate is definitely better.

Please looks at this video for proper NVH compare.

I'll go with 23 Verna for NVH. I am driving a sonet and it feels excellent too, but yet to take her on a stretch and see her behaviour in the open stage.

Re: Top 5 cars with the best NVH insulation below ₹25 Lakh price tag

I would rate my Ertiga Petrol 6AT among the top in terms of low NVH levels. Unfortunately, Maruti vehicles are grossly underestimated. Their MPV/SUVs are decently built with great passive safety as well. And very good noise cushioning. No doubt, they need to be made of more superior materials, but in terms refinement and ride quality, they are tops.

Re: Top 5 cars with the best NVH insulation below ₹25 Lakh price tag

I recently bought Virtus GT DSG after driving 2018 Hyundai I20 for 50k kms. Also, have Hyundai Creta 2020, Kia Seltos 2022, MS Dzire and Baleno 2018 at home. Here are my two cents basis my driving experience on petrol engines-
1. I used to feel NVH in Hyundais/Kias is far better than the MS ones due to better engine refinement and cabin insulation.
2. During test drives, I felt cabin noise in Virtus/Slavia 1.5 along with Verna (NA/Turbo both) was better than Honda City/Elevate (Road noise due to poor insulation maybe).
3. Also, Creta performs better than Seltos in this regards maybe due to wider profile JK tyres in Seltos.
4. But after driving Virtus GT for 4k kms, I am blown away. The NVH levels are exceptional, in fact sometimes I need to double check if the engine is still running in start-stop city traffic during my daily commute. At highway cruising around 120kmph, engine runs around 2k rpm due to which only road noise is felt, engine noise and vibration is negligible.
