Absolutely 100% perfect suggestion. No doubt at all! I will go for a test drive soon. I had the Brezza on my mind too. The only reason I have not considered it is because it is not exciting enough. But one cannot have everything and it seems to be the perfect upgrade. I just hope my father likes it and does not find it "big".

I take my words back about "no car having the 5 parameters I have listed". Thanks for reminding me DCEite!

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

Few tips while choosing cars for elderly:

- Parking sensors
- Front visibility (Thinner A pillars, windshield real estate etc.)
- Road side assistance with insurance
- Ingress / egress
- Minimal touchscreen controls
- Smooth suspension

May wait for the Kia Syros and Honda Amaze facelift

Looking at the replies, I'd be inclined towards something like Fronx/Taisor.

Add to the equation the oodles of torque from the diesel and upwards of 20kmpl when driven sedated on the highway too. Somehow I haven't experienced any problems with service after Ford's exit from the Indian market.

Front bumper, windscreen and fuel line were replaced last year for ~35k and took 2 days.

If you're purely looking at a new car then go for the Dzire, the new generation is quite the looker and is a good effort at taking away the taxi tag from the car.

Cheers

If I was looking at something for myself. Definitely would have looked for one. My next car would mostly be a used big German. But peace of mind is absolute paramount so I'm not inclined on used car market at least for this purchase.

3 points to consider:
  • Dont for a sedan. A slightly higher ingress-egress and seat height are mandatory for comfort at that age
  • Dont worry about mileage unless the car will be driven over 500-600km per month
  • Lesser tech the better

Given the comfort with Maruti - I would recommend the Fronx/Jimny if budget is convenient or the Wagon over the other models . Desire would have low seating and fairly challenging blindspots
Do let us know what have you decided when you do so.
I'll be taking test drive of Fronx but I have capped the budget between 11-13 so Turbo AT will be outside the budget. Wagon R is a good option but I really want the next purchase to cover the basic safety necessities which I am not confident about in Wagon R.

At present I am inclined to wait for Kylaq and the new Amaze, since they may offer better transmissions and hopefully within my budget.

I can take extended warranty for additional peace of mind.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

Went to take test drive of Fronx. The AMT version was not available so took test drive of turbo AT for suspension tuning and found it well tuned.

Took test drive of Baleno AGS for AMT experience and I just can't get over the head nod. I have a Nano XTA as a backup car and it has pronounced jerkiness. I'm not sure if it's because of the speed difference at which baleno would drive as compared to the nano or something else, but the jerk on Baleno felt uncomfortable.

I'm definitely waiting for Kylaq and Amaze.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

I already have a Punch which I bought for my dad who is 73.

I am also buying a 2024 Dzire. Both cars are very comfortable. Ingress egress in dzire wasn't an issue. My dad is 5'11 tall. I bought 2 cars because I replaced 2 cars (Kwid and Celerio). If I have to choose one between Punch and Dzire, it will be Dzire.

Reasons :

1. Better space
2. Better engine
3. Better After Sales and Service
4. Better Fuel efficiency

Though both cars are rated 5 stars in GNCAP, Punch feels sturdier than the Dzire. Punch also has a heavier steering and clutch.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

I am 73+, 5'6". I bought a Brezza AT in June this year. Currently 1/3 of the way on a 21 day tour of Odisha and Chhatisgarh, starting from Kolkata, done 1,600 KM.

I love this car. Very comfortable, easy entry/exit, 360 camera, smooth gearbox, 14+ KMPL in city, 21+ on highway etc etc - full set of bells and whistles.

My wife (5'3") drives this car as well. She likes the all-round view and adjustable sterinfg.

I can recommend for anyone my age.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

If budget is a problem, you can get current gen amaze cvt with some really nice discount. One member in tbhp got amaze s with 1.2 lakhs off. For budget of 11-13 lakhs, i would look at sub 4 meter suv because they are easier to get in. Won't suggest kylaq unless it completes an year in our market. Venue, Sonet, brezza are good options. Under 10 you can look at magnite cvt, Citroen c3 turbo, punch, exter, aura(although not a safe car), dzire, and current/next gen amaze.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

Exter has relatively low seating. My dad (74 yrs old) had issues with egress when we checked it out last year.

We then brought home the Wagon-R AMT which is serving us well and has a lot easier ingress/egress as well as excellent visibility all around, which is very important for the elderly.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

I would suggest the Tata Punch EV, since it will be predominantly driven in the city.

- The doors open wide and 90 degrees, ingress-egress is great for older folks (my in-laws who are 70ish love it)
- It offers great visibility and smart tech that helps its occupants navigate tight spaces.
- It's frugal to run, barely 500 bucks a month at the most!
- It's silent/quiet and offers a generally serene driving experience.

I would still suggest it, subject to a few niggles that I noticed/experienced during our brief 3-month tenure with the car, before we handed it over to our in-laws. Be warned: The after-sales-service isn't what I would call prompt. But it's manageable.

Barring these issues, it's the ideal car for the use-case.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

Hey! I think the Maruti Dzire would be the best fit for your father, especially if he's used to Maruti's reliability and after-sales service. The fuel efficiency is excellent for city driving, and the ride should be comfortable for him. The AMT gearbox can be a bit of a pain in heavy traffic, but overall, it’s a smooth drive. I get why the Punch is tempting with its safety rating, but if service is a big concern for your dad (given he’s driven Marutis all his life), it could be a hassle. The Exter looks great in terms of features and ride quality, but the fuel economy might not be as strong, and the missing armrest could be a small discomfort for him. In the end, if convenience and reliability are top priorities, Dzire feels like the safer bet.

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

Went and took test drive of Magnite CVT. I am impressed with the construction, updated interiors and ride quality.

My dad is not comfortable with DZire so Amaze is out of question. I'm inclined to book Magnite NConnecta cvt. Getting it on road around 12L+.

I completely agree with this. My father is 71 and about the same height, with somewhat weak knees (that have been replaced once already). He loves the fact that he can just 'walk' into the Brezza and the Grand Vitara, and need not sit down or climb up too much. This was the one criterion that put me off the Honda City when I was car-shopping. This is also one valid reason why crossover hatches have taken a lion's share of the mass market car pie.

It is a very easy car to live with, especially if you have senior citizens in the family. That K15C engine is very common across India and most local mechanics can easily address issues and general servicing.

That said, it is quite an uneventful car and might not be to everybody's liking.

For a bit more fun, you might want to check out Nexon/Sonet/Venue etc.

I'd suggest to wait and check out the Kylaq too. It's definitely going to be a more entertaining car, though probably not as easy to own with the usual Skoda antics.

Booked Magnite Techna CVT. I compared it with Brezza Vxi AT but for same money Magnite is just a No Brainer. I'm not considering factors like keeping the vehicle for 10 years or the resale value.

The soft touch materials,360 cam, 6 Airbags , Cruise control, Alloys (My dad loves good alloy designs), Fog Lamps , etc made me choose Magnite over Brezza

Re: Buying a Sub 4 meter car for my Father who is 75

I would seriously wait for Kylaq - reliable TC gearbox with mature ride, ease of ingress, good ground clearance, safe build, and dimensions that could be a boon for city driving with good visibility all round - key points for elders driving.

Yes, FE could pinch but if it's not a long city commute - it would be worth the additional amount; and the service/reliability may not be the best - but I reckon similar / better to Punch.

If he is driving it solo, then maybe even the MG Comet could make sense - low running cost, and easy to drive around the city albeit the ride quality may not be great.

Congratulations its a really good buy, I seriously contemplated the Magnite Tekna+ MT but eventually booked the Dzire. Tremendous value for money and a global product, if only Nissan had a bit more dealership and service presence.
