Re: What car as a second car to our BMW X1?

WagonR/Ignis AMT seems to be the ideal option for you!

Can consider the Nios AMT as well if you aren't looking for a Maruti.

Happy shopping!

An old BMW will always ask for repairs and expenses, whether you run it 5k a year or 15k a year shouldn't make a significant difference.

If cost is the only concern then paying the 1-2l a year is cheaper than paying 1-2l a year AND paying 10l for a another car.

Why would you want to spend more money and drive a worse car in the city?

Car hardly get any smaller than X1 which is a subcompact to begin with. I’d say spend the 30k, it’s less than 4 tanks of fuel and not worth losing sleep over. Even if you spend say 2L every year (unlikely), you’ll get 6 years of use until you hit your cheap car budget.

Use X1 as a city car as it’s best suited for urban driving and get a larger car for highways if you want. Ideally I’d pick up a lightly used Camry, E or S for long distance driving as they have much more space, select based on your future budget for the main car.

This is sound advice actually because 30k to change an engine mount on a car with imported parts is actually not that bad. I would take it a step further by saying that if you find a 30k bill to be steep when maintaining an import, just drop it and buy two sensible made in India cars instead; one used and one new like a used Corolla and a new Alto or just a new Ciaz or something that matches your expectations in terms of maintainability. Stick to made in India if you cannot digest X1 service bills
