Considering Used SUV, How do I mitigate "legal" liabilities

Hi Guys,
So, I have found this really nice, used SUV. One year old, only 17K miles, and drives like a beauty. The vehicle has been purchased in cash from a Maruti dealer, has service records and insruance, etc., so the documentation is pretty complete.

My only concern is that the car belongs to a guy from a neighborhood that is not the safest of areas and is known for its gang-related activities. How do I mitigate my risk just in case the vehicle has been in any type of legal hassles? I will be going to the Department of Motor Vehicle to get a police report on the vehicle based on its License, Chassis # and Engine #.

Would appreciate your help in any additional checks I can run and/or documentation I can arrange for prior to making the purchase. I just don't want to cops knocking on my door.

Cheers.
