Dont get Scorpio rear seats as when they are in an upright position you will see nothing except the rear seat passenger faces in the RVM.

Deepak (Starter) has original Gypsy Rear seats and he doesnt face such an issue and he is from Blore, so you can check with him.

considering my requirement, i will have to get one custom made. Will have to find someone in Bangalore!

from what i understand, Bangalore is more "hobby-friendly" than Pune or Mumbai: whether it is off-roading or RC planes: you get all the jugaadu stuff more easily as well as the people to work them! :P

For the carputer have selected the ZOTAC NM10 board which comes with a Intel D510 CPU and has an inbuilt 5.1 card with HDMI and VGA out! total power consumption is less than 25W.

All for a price of $142!!

Also ordered online for the GPS receiver, and niceties like a rotary input unit of the kind found in high end Audi's!

I dont want to wire my Carputer to the Ignition of the car. So i plan to put in a dash mounted switch which will power on both the Amp and the Carputer.

Rough wiring plan for Carputer:
Red: DC +
Black: DC -
Green: Control Signals
Blue: AV Signals

Build Log: Converting the Gypsy into a mini-RV-carputerwiring.jpg

Inputs welcome! Build starts 16th Oct!

The dash mounted switch - will it be direct from the battery? What Isolation mechanism do you have? It is important to have a isolation device between the Power source and the powered source. The Ignition generally does it in cars!!

See diag above. 12v IN supply will be from the new FuseBox No.2 mounted under the bonnet on the left wall.

Obd-2

Getting this damn OBD to work has been trying indeed! This is the only component of the carputer that has not passed the laptop dry-run phase so far. and its beginning to p**s me off!

talked to a maruti employee yesterday and he said something about getting the software to pick up everything from the K line and ignore the L line.

Now how does one do that?

Why do these fellows complicate things so much instead of just sticking to a standard?

Correct, but the fuse is always ON. Hence a small earthing fault will drain your battery! Its better to have a switch to ON/OFF for this setup!
