Hey guys,
I was just wondering won't this be a problem when you go for PUC certificate?

Diesel Additive - from ELF

Found this, and trying it out. Both - the Sumo & the Indigo Marina are smoother with the additive.

Checked on the web, and this product apprantely is the Elf Desol 243, which increases the cetane rating of diesel, and has the usual detergent properties to clean the injectors.

Adding oil to the diesel is been used by trucker long before additives where introduced in india, IT helps in engines as it lubricates the injectors and pumps [mechanical] do not no about CRD systems [but it should help there to].
AS for pollution part it burns of so there is no much of a difference there. My Dad's diesel cars and trucks have been on this diet for 30 years now and we have no problem. but it was usually 1 liter of oil in tankful every 7000-10,000 km...... it keeps the system clean[so they say].....

Jaggu, you can throw that tissue now

Found the stuff in Rajajinagar 1st Blk: Dr Raj Road (80' Road), near Subrahmanya Nagar police station/ opp VRL. There's a lube/oil dealer next to the station.

The distributor for Elf lube/oils is located near MCC. Waiting for information on Elf dealers. Will update as soon as I get the details

Usage is 0.04% mix - 20 ml for 50 litres of diesel. 16/- per packet.
(for old injectors, 1% mix for an initial 10k km, as per instructions on the sachet)

The truck's definitely smoother with the additive. Upshifts at same speeds are better with the additive than without. I am using a 0.05% mix.

I could not do a proper testing (Keeping everything else like road/route, fuel brand, etc the same and switch between using & not using the additive).

But compared to my previous drive from CBE to BLR after the monsoon mega meet when I got 11.76, this drive returned a 12.15. Stretches of rural roads meant using 2nd or 3rd gear.

Fuel Lubricity is important for engine performance. In cold climates
it is a recommened practice to mix kerosene/ ATF with Diesel , Tata Safari Manual says at -20 deg celcis 50 - 50 % mix of Kerosene and Diesel is recomemnded. And at - 15 deg this is 30 - 70 .
Bad thing about Kerosene is that it lowers the lubricity of the fuel so some additive is recommened to restore the lubricity for proper functioning of fuel pump.
In India the kerosene Diesel mix is a rotine scenario due to higer subsidy by government on kerosene so we need fuel additives to deal with the scenario ( read System - D )

So if you see in this light what is being discussed in thread is not any thing earth shattring but can 2T oil serve as cheaper alternative to System D and other costly additives being solde under fancy names.

Also, I really don't get how adding oil to the diesel in the tank affects your gear shift?? Is there a connection between the gearbox and the fuel tank that I may have missed?

Tell me the connection too , since it DOES exist.
With say SONAX octane boost my gearshift to a small extent gets smoother [ less stress in transmission?] but my CLUTCH gets super smooth.

Re: Adding Engine oil with Diesel.

Posting here as one of my friend was suggested to do the same when he took his car to Maruti's Service Centre in Mohali. Their chief Service Advisor told him to add about 1 litre of Engine Oil in his Diesel tank to smoothen out engine noise. I was kinda shocked when I heard this at first. But I guess now this is a thing that many people are doing.

TLDR:- Is it advisable to add Engine oil in diesel tank?

I have seen this being done with older diesel and petrol engines both. When I was a kid, I had seen my driver adding oil to a full tank of petrol before setting off for a long journey. It was like 250 ml or so in a full tank. I'd still want to ask him that why did he do that?

Coming to your query, please refrain from these. Modern engines may be more abuse friendly when it comes to driving style but they are much more sensitive when it comes to their diet. The fuel injection and emission system is finely controlled by the computer which is NOT programmed to factor in motor oil in fuel. You may ruin your fuel pump, fuel filter and catalytic converter besides ending up with clogged injectors.
Logically asking, what one expects while adding oil to fuel? Technically you are left with adulterated fuel which won't burn as well as pure fuel inside the cylinders.
And you don't need lubrication inside the cylinders (even if you think that oil will retain its quality even after combustion inside the cylinder). In fact, burnt oil and some unburnt fuel will result in carbon deposits and a worse exhaust, which will probably ruin the catalytic converter.

In a nutshell, I don't believe in addition of motor oil to fuel theory, especially in modern engines.

Regards,
Saket.

This reminds me of a funny incident: Way back in 2000, when we bought our MPFI 800, it was one of the earliest MPFI Marutis on the roads. My dad's colleague who owned a carb 800 advised using engine oil with petrol, and he claimed it made his 800 smoother.

My dad, albeit reluctant, still went ahead and added some engine oil. Even the fuel pump operator confirmed that many people use it to make engines smoother.

Just 10kms into the journey, the car stalled and died down. Luckily, MASS was across the roadside, and the mechanic calmly replaced the fuel filter after asking about our last refuel. We also had to drain all the fuel, and clean the pump with clean petrol before installation. The engine oil had choked the fuel filter of our 800.

Regards,
Shashi

Re: Adding Engine oil with Diesel.

Hi everybody
I need help. My brother in law's 2008 tata indica diesel underwent an engine overhaul at 166800kms. After which the engine had become pretty smooth. The car has run for 1400kms after the engine work. Now I see that engine noise has increased in cold starts. When I showed to mechanic he suggested adding 250ml of 15w40 diesel engine oil to tankful of diesel.
I tried researching on same but could see information only to add 2t oil that too in ratio of 0.8ml to 1 litre of diesel
My questions are
1 Can the above engine oil also be added in same ratio or max 100ml to tankful to be safe?
2. Should i stick to only 2Toil?

I tried adding 40ml to my bike's fuel tank once a year i.e between 10 tankfuls n it improved performance n reduced engine noise.
I am thinking of adding engine oil only once a year to one of the 12 tankfulls.

Request help from everyone.

Regards
Sushil Narayanan
