ID:283 is a Subaru 360.

It was the first mass produced car by Fuji Heavy Industries, Japan starting 1958.

3,90,467 units were made over a dozen years until 1970.

It could seat four adults of small build, weighed 420 kg and was just 1.4 metres long.

It was replaced by the Fiat-like Subaru R2 1971-1974.

The Subaru 360 was powered by an air-cooled two-stroke two-cyl. 356 cc rear engine, that put out
25 bhp @ 5500 rpm and 34 Newton-metre torque @ 4500 rpm.
The engine was mounted aft of the rear wheels.
The little car could touch 83 km/h, yet return an economy of 28 km/litre.

In the quest to reduce weight, the round face was made of pressed steel sheet. The roof was made of fabric. And the rear window was acrylic not glass.

You can read more about it on the Summer 2006 issue of Subaru's Drive magazine.

Gogi's original pic seems to be from there.
