Bass&Trouble : P.S. I really wonder how a Dasch managed to get it on with a Lab or vice versa.
Nitin :.. I think a step-stool was involved, or the lab (mommy) was flat out on the ground, when happy little papa decided to give things a try.
They must have been very cross !

In the case of cats, it's more like *they* train *you* to do this and do that. Stuff like to feed them at a particular time (that is convenient to them), to feed them something they like (else they will just walk off in a huff), to open the door when they want to go out or come back in etc.

After having had 20-odd cats in our house since I was a really small kid (we now have two 'khandaans' of cat families that are about 8 to 10 generations deep), I consider myself a well-trained human.

Well said, hydrashok. You have precisely described the behaviour of our Mudhol hound. He will not do what he doesnt want to do. He will eat the portions he likes, and will leave the rest in the bowl - and not look back at the left-overs. He just wants things his way.

The old question is ever valid: Did man domesticate animals, or did animals domesticate man ?

Guys I need a dog for my one and half year old niece who has developed a liking for pets. What do you people suggest I get for her or is it too early?

its never too early to have a pet...but they do come with a responsibility unlike any other... do not get a dog if you aint got time for it...
for most people , once the puppy entertainment value is over then the dog aint nothin more that a showcase object. You may give ur dog the best but if you dont give it time.... its not worth it.
Moral fibre: A labrador retriever is a very good pet to have in the house and is very good around kids and very family oriented. But needs exercise and good eating habits reinforced early or they are prone to obesity and laziness.
Ive got 3 kids...2 labradors & 1 rotweiler.

Got 3 dogs:
2 labradors & 1 rottweiler.

Moral fibre:
a labrador will be good for ur neice. Homely & very safe with kids, but need exercise & good eating habits reinforced from the start, else prone to obesity & laziness. MOreover, with any dog, you need to spend time.

@shreeram..you got a good looking dog, but its disheartning to see him on leash

anyways friends i have a male german shepherd dog named Maxie and he is 2 years old. Will try to post his pic soon.

Its nice and surprising to see lots of members on team-bhp who are fond of pets.

good going people.
