Suggestions for ICE upgrade - Getz

Current Setup:
Head Unit: Pioneer 4750
Amplifier: Panasonic 4 channel (1000W, 64*4 RMS at 4 ohms)
Front Components: Alpine Type-S 171
Rear Co-Axials: Alpine Type-S 6*9

The current setup is tuned by Anwar, Auto Fusion and I am pretty happy with the sound quality. The weakest link in my set up is the head unit and I am going to replace it with Alpine 9887.

Questions:
I plan to get a subwoofer with good sound quality (I hate SPL). My Vitamin M would be low after getting Alpine 9887, but I prefer to save and upgrade in one go. I hate to see my car stripped for installations.
Maximum combined budget for subwoofer and Monoblock: Rs.20000

1. I drive the car and the only user 90% of the time. The amplifier currently drives the front and rear speakers. Should I use the amplifier to drive the front components and subwoofer or get a monoblock to drive the subwoofer?

2. Please give your suggestions for the subwoofer and monoblock.

A Monoblock might be an overkill for a Getz. A good two channel amp would be sufficient to drive the Sub.

Ground Zero - GZTW12MK2 is an excelllent Subwoofer. It has excellent SQ.
For the monoblock JBL GTO3501 should suffice your needs. It has the right power to drive the Ground Zero Sub.

I had a similar set of queries for my Getz. After much research and deliberation, I figured that a monoblock is not really a 'must have' for a hatch, unless you really want boom-boom and want to drive the sub to its peak.

If you, like me, would like the sub to complement the front components, and provide the low frequencies, you can suffice with a 2 channel amp for the sub. Or 2 channels bridged out of a 4 channel amp.

Regarding choice of sub, I found the Ground Zero - GZTW12MK2 to be a bit vague and boomy. It plays the entire range of low frequencies well, but not as tight and fast as I want it to. I think JBL scores a shade better than GZ in this deptt.

I heard it in an Zen Estilo, Accent and also in Getz. But I didnt check what amp(s) was driving it. Sub woofer performance is affected greattly by the power supplied to it. And of course a well built box!

@PW - best would be to contact member amit_mechengg from Pune. He has experienced both JBL and GZ subs so he can tell you correctly.

From my understanding,it is clear that JBL and GZ have very different sound signatures. Many people like either of the 2 for exactly the same reason. Both are great subs but you just have to figure out what goes with your music better in terms of bass

Thanks guys.

I am looking for tight bass, not boomy. I am going for a sealed enclosure.
I have decided to audition JBL GT5 12" subwoofer. Will Image Dynamics 12" subwoofer fit in my budget?

ID 12" sub has an MRP of 12.7 K, with the enclosure +amp im sure it would push 20-25 K

What about driving the front components and ID sub woofer using the 4 channel amp I am using? The rear co-axials can be used as rear fills. I want the sound stage in the front. I am just thinking if a seperate monoamp is required.

Also, where can I get ID subwoofer in Bangalore?

A mono amp will do justice to the setup. Also your 4 channel amp may not be sufficient to drive the sub. If you do not require much boom, why don't you go for a 10" sub in a sealed box.

I guess Gunbir is no more associated with ID. Still, try PMing him as he will guide you.

How is your upgrade plan coming along? Have you decided on the sub and amp?

Thanks guys, I will check with Gunbir.

Initially my plan was to get 10" sub as I do not want boom and boot space is iimportant for me. I changed to 12" after I found that it is recommended here for SQ as well . I know boot space will be affected more - I plan to leave the sub at home when travelling with family/ luggage.
