Yes you can. I am sure of it. I saw yesterday in the apple store, an iPod connected directly to a plasma TV.

Here are some of the things you can do with the Universal Dock:
  • Connect the Dock to your computer with the cable that came with your iPod, then place your iPod in the Dock to sync and charge the battery. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.
  • Connect the Dock to an electrical outlet using an iPod Power Adapter, then place your iPod in the Dock to charge the battery.
  • Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using an iPod AV Cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPod.
  • Control playback from a distance using the Apple Remote.
  • Display photos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable or S-video cable if you have an iPod with a color display.
  • Display videos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable or S-video cable if you have an iPod with video capability.
About the Universal Dock
The Universal Dock is the ultimate iPod docking solution. Any model of iPod with a dock connector can fit perfectly into a single Universal Dock through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters. You simply insert the Dock Adapter that fits your particular iPod model, then plug in your iPod. When you want to connect a different-size iPod, simply pop out the Dock Adapter and insert a new one.

The iPod Universal Dock package includes adapters for five iPods. New iPods will include adapters for that model, and other adapters are available separately.

FYI,

if you have a VCD HU and a video ipod your screen better have 2 inputs one for the ipod and the other for the HU incase you want to use that.

I have not seen a screen with a S-Video input. Most only have composite video.

Doc, if you intend to use the universal dock in the car along with your Alpine HU and 420i ipod controller you will need to conect a cable from your HU (Aux in) to line out of the universal dock. THe Universal dock will allow you HU to control the ipod via the ipod controller but wont pass audio signals via the ipod controller like you can when you are not using the universal dock. The audio signals travel via the line out on the universal dock.

the vdo ipod has a vdo output from the headphone jack it self no need for the base to carry along. but why take so much pain with the vdo. as the ipod will play the quictime format only so u have to encode every moive which u have to watch on the ipod or through the ipod on to other screen.

Actually the threadstarter intended to use Creative Zen Vision M, not the ipod. The former can play more number of formats compared to later.
I think Chaxy wants to load cartoon videos in his player and entertain his baby when travelling. I am getting similar ideas with my baby on the way.
