+1 to that! Perhaps, a new "kutti aana" in making. I wouldn't be surprised at the hauling capability because it has a really torquey and powerful engine - 55bhp is the best in class, IIRC.

The ACE's headlamps are really bright - one of the best reflector designs considering their brightness, but unfortunately placed at the wrong height.

Re: Leyland Nissan rolls out Dost from Hosur facility

Is dost the first Indian vehicle to use Hindi Name, I know Maruti is Sanskrit/Hindi but its a company name. I didn't like the name at all. But I don't think it will be a problem with the target customers. I also feel the headlights should have been designed better as they are adding more to the already ugly look. I think this vehicle looks like a huge pig when viewed from distance. I hope it succeeds.

True. But, we feel so because we are accustomed to new generation cars where the dashboard covers up a lot of area. Is it not good to have plenty of space inside ? Will we 'feel' unsafe with this much of empty area ?

Is this the cargo version of the minivan (NV200) that Nissan will be launching in partnership with AL?

Spotted one more DOST in action:

Looks like they've sold in decent numbers in Coimbatore, Salem and nearby areas.

My first spotting of Dost at my home town Pollachi(Coimbatore). Looks like it was registered very recently. Could be 10-15 days old.

Re: Leyland Nissan rolls out Dost from Hosur facility

I was wondering why AL hasn't provided a grill for air intake. A CRDI engine would be generating a lot of heat.

The engine is placed between the front axle & the cab & the cooling is achieved by the air flow below the cab. Recently had a chance to drive all three variants of the DOST. Really thrilled about the performance of the vehicle in terms of pull, handling, ride quality, NVH & AC. Even under the hot sun of march, the temperature inside the cab was not at all torturing even in the LE & LS variants (without AC), thanks to the roomy & airy cab.

Got some interesting info on the sales & marketshare details of DOST (attached)

Hope AL finally got a real winner. All the best team AL

Re: Leyland Nissan rolls out Dost from Hosur facility

Looking at the numbers, AP being the largest market for Multi axle rigid haulage trucks its surprising to see that they are one of the smallest market for SCV's. Hope there will be a good growth potential in coming days.
Also the pie between Pickups and Mini trucks in SCV segment now stands at ~56:44.
IMO, this is more likely to shift in favor of Mini trucks in coming years, due to their distinct advantages. Also coupled with competition from GM -rebadged from Wuling, China this will only be strengthened.

Re: Leyland Nissan rolls out Dost from Hosur facility

Dost is being seen in good numbers in AP. They do not have many dealers but sales are quite good.

The pay load is 1.25 tonnes, but I hear it is quite good for up to 3 tonnes. Even Tata ACE regularly carries 2 + tonnes and the Bolero Pik-Ups do 3 tonnes.

I have noticed many Boleros trucks with bent chassis but never noticed that in an Ace.

Surprised to see the Bolero Pickup twins dominating the SCV market!!! Aren't the others a lot cheaper to purchase and operate?

Granted the Bolero is better if the purpose is dual... for both personal & business.

Re: Leyland Nissan rolls out Dost from Hosur facility

Here in Goa I get to see many Dosts plying on the road.
I am mighty impressed by the pulling power and pick up. I think it will succeed in a big way.

Reporting live from a wedding! catering company is using AL Dost. I am impressed by the build quality of the same. I guess, it is time for Tata to launch the facelifted Ace with more creature comforts.
