While being at the workshop for my servicing i decided to walk around in the showroom as well and take a look around. Decided to also look at the elegance which was standing there in the Fabia and was surprised to notice a few new changes which i think stem from the styling that the Octavia

Firstly the steering has the new logos clearly as can be seen but the steering itself has changed as well.

Secondly , the AC units have gone from being knobs to switches now and have in overall dimensions become smaller or so it appears

Gear lever has gone from an almost round shape towards the direction of a square. What is not present in the photo is the entire lever but that was feeling a little shorter in height and definitely smaller in overall dimensions making the throw feel overall shorter.


Additional changes observed but i dont have photos , the AC vents , the number of grills inside them appear reduced.

it has been discontinued. it is no longer in production at VW's chakan plant. Dealers are clearing stocks.

It is strange on why they would bother doing any changes in the car this late into it being taken away from the market. Maybe they are testing out a few things in the Fabia in terms of using them on future cars?

Skoda is all over the place so cannot really even take an educated guess. They announce they have a target of 100,000 Fabia's to be sold every year soon , then they follow that by saying its being taken away from the market followed by changes like this.

What i really do like however and i suppose maybe a silver lining is the new gear stick , and i think i can replace the one i have currently with this one , should be a simple plug and play , will try and find out cost.

The new gear shift looks better but I personally prefer the old type AC switches, puchoo could you pls update the price of the gear lever if you find out.
During my last service ,during a chat with the service advisor hementioned that 2014 can expect a facelift for the fabia.

There is an Ad in The Times of India, New Delhi promoting the Skoda Fabia. Does not talk about changes, but mentions free insurance and registration.

I was surprised to see that ad, knowing well that Fabia was supposed to have been discontinued.

BTW, the AC knobs look absolutely downmarket compared to the earlier ones. Gear knob does look better.

The AC knobs are the ones present in the Rapid active & ambition.
The stressing, the new gear box along with the logos too are taken from the Rapid.

Yes , but the bigger question is why bother if it is going to be phased out? Does this allow for some cost saving thus yielding bigger margins for them -instead of using different materials and vendors , simply plug the Rapid supply and parts in?

I guess this might be a way out for part shortages.
It's a move to finish out the kits in stock & compensating the shortage of parts by directly fitting parts from the Rapid. This would also save them on the production/procurement cost as parts like the AC knobs are common on the Rapid, the Vento & the Polo.

This is just a guess from my side.

Satyam & Tushky hit the nail on the head. Skoda / dealers are just clearing up whatever old stock of cars & parts they have. The updates come from the parts bin of other cars.

For a model that has been discontinued, I wonder why Skoda India still has Fabia listed on their website and has pages regarding the vehicle.

Is it because dealers are still disposing off older stock?

So that's also a message for anyone trying to find replacement spares for minor parts! Being a Fabia owner myself, perhaps I should start thinking about selling it off when it still has some value.

Not related to this thread but couldn't think of another thread apt for this. There was a discussion sometime back on a dealer from Ahmedabad offering a free Fabia to everyone who buys the Rapid or something like that. With the car being discontinued what will happen to all those offers?
