March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Management Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Eagerly awaited thread.

Maruti leads the way as usual. Ciaz volumes have dropped but it clearly retains the 2nd spot in the C segment. Ritz needs the face lift to bring it to the Maruti level in numbers.
Awaiting S Cross and YBA to see how the monthly chart will get affected.

Hyundai seems to be doing well. Elite i20+ active is a blockbuster for them. Consistently doing good numbers. Verna 4s has not been successful in capturing any volumes post face lift.

Honda's incredible position has now moved Mahindra's a step lower. City is the undisputed leader in the c segment. Not sure if the year end closing has anything to do with this. Amaze does decent business. Mobilio and Brio should worry them though.

Bolt seem to be still born for Tata. Zest is now confirmed as getting a 'lukewarm ' response from the masses.

VW should be happy - now in the 10th position. Polo gets its due in terms of volumes but still deserves better volumes.

Toyota has nothing much to boast of. Should come out will a clear strategy - CUV. C segment products?

Skoda, Fiat, GM is not worth a mention in the March sales figures.

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

What's up with the Bolt, are we looking at a classic case of 'Pricing disaster' ?? While Zest seems to be approaching the plateau of around 2500 units per month, Bolt registers more than 50% M-o-M decline.

Forget about segment leaders like Swift, Elite i20 and i10 Grand, It is outsold by so-called laggards like Brio, Ritz and Liva. It's right there at the bottom with Sail U-VA, Micra, Pulse and Figo.

We all know Figo is reaching the end of life-cycle and the Micra-Pulse twins are sharing numbers. What can be the reason for sudden decline for Bolt ?? I hope it bounces back in the days to come.

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for the most awaited thread.

It is very monotonous at the top with the same four cars figuring month after month. Swift has a 14 % dip in figures compared to last month, yet manages to be in the top 3.
Elite i20 is moving up and posting quite good figures month after month. The fact that the 5th most selling car in India is a premium Hatch, says a lot about the way market has matured.

Ciaz sells less than half the number of City although she has much higher sales points. A testimony to the success that brand City is in the Sedan Space.

Neither Zest nor Bolt featuring in the top 20. Safe to call them failures? What more does Tata need to do for gaining the lost ground in passenger car market?

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I looked at the top 20 cars and went "Wow!". Except the Ritz (always the awkward poor cousin of the Swift) and the Gypsy (institutional sales only?), all their models are in the top 20.

Hows that for market dominance?

GM is now irrelevant in India. They don't even have one model that sells in good numbers. And, unlike FIAT, there isn't even a niche fan following or alternative source of business!

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Honda rapidly growing. The Ciaz and New Verna have not been able to dent the City numbers. Similarly the Xcent and Zest have not been able to dent Amaze numbers. This is a little surprising to me since both these seem better products than the Amaze. I assume the 1.5L diesel mill on the Amaze is it's USP. Need to see if the Ford Aspire can cause any impact.

Now if they bring in the Jazz at a good price point, it can take away volumes from the i20. So looks like Honda is all set to grow further.

Thanks for the statistics.

Need to filter out sudden changes like displayed by Gypsy, Elite etc. May be a three month moving average will do that instead of pure one month number?

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for the most eagerly awaited stats. Missing badly GTO's analysis & comments. I don't know why it has stopped ?

Bolt not getting the desired numbers is strange, but more or less it was predicted here on TeamBHP. A silver lining there for Tatas is the improvement in overall numbers which may be due to the footfalls the Zest and the Bolt are generating. But 15000 number looks unsustainable in this way.

Only 22 Arias? Off late..was seeing new Arias with yellow board quite often here in Mumbai. Such a waste of that gem of a chassis coupled to that gem of an engine.

From my service station manager, I learn that Tatas are running several promotional offers of a free Aria on purchase of certain numbers of Marcopolo buses. But I really cant understand such a dismal number of actual sales.

The new Storme (days away from launch now ) and the Hexa are due for a launch in November 2015 (according to my source). Will serve a niche clientèle and hence expecting relevant numbers from these 2 looks far fetched to me.

Great to see Maruti making inroads in C segment with the Ciaz. My God, we Indians, it seems, will lap up whatever car Maruti launches.

Re: March 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for the numbers and stats.

Honda crosses 20K in monthly sales for the first time. And in style - it's city is outselling Maruti Ciaz by more than double.

Hyundai has really outdone itself with i20. 12,000+ and i am guessing it will become even more popular in coming days. The car looks wonderful, inside out!

Toyota is just Innova and Fortuner. Both bring in great profitability to them, rest are all for namesakes. It's high time Toyota lost that lethargy and bought some good products - hope additional competition coming their way in terms of Lodgy and TrailBlazer puts some pressure on them. As of now, they are sitting pretty and still making money.

Renault is still a one car company. Hopefully the price Lodgy aggressively to change that!

The effect of Duster AWD is showing in this month's figures, hopefully the momentum will sustain.

Re: Toyota, suddenly 24 Landcruisers in a single month? Whoa !! What's this, some block deal for a Chief Ministerial convoy?
