Bolero is the No. 1 SUV in India and it is now official. it has been ranked the highest in total customer satisfaction in the SUV / MPV category in the 2009 four-wheeler Total Customer Satisfaction (TCS) study conducted by TNS Automotive, the specialist division of TNS Global.

I didn't like the original Bolero because it was a stiff SUV with tough steering and hard Suspension. But the new Bolero VLX is totally refined and very smooth SUV. Now Bolero is a complete car, it is not just for the petrol heads but it also is a good comfortable and smooth family ride too.

its great value for money no doubt about it.
also, looking at the offerings in its particular target segment, frankly it has little or no competition.
basis the sheer numbers of Boleros sold it is a good achievement for the Bolero to come out on top as far as a total customer satisfaction survey is concerned.

I always thought buying a Maruti Suzuki car is a safer option in India with their service network and easy and cheap availability of spare parts. It was obvious that Maruti Suzuki keep its customers more satisfied with the number of service networks it has and making spares easily available to customers. But Mahindra has silently but surely made a lot of improvement on the Customer Satisfaction front. It is starting to become the preferred brand for a lot of buyers.

the serious off road vehicles which can handle immersion in water like the LandCruiser and Land Rover and the Wranglers etc invariably will have Snorkel systems so that water doesnt get into the exhaust and will also have specially sealed underbody areas to completely cut off any water seepage or atleast minimize it to the best extent.

The Bolero, Safari and Scorpio etc will certainly leak a bit if you go as deep as that, into water.

That's an interesting question to which I have an equally interesting answer.Two years back or so, I was taking a godforsaken route to Pondicherry from Bangalore via Arcot. Don't ask me why I took that route.I was just crazy that's all trying to find a new "unexplored" route.En route the road had totally gone and a stream had overflowed over the existing road and some repairs were going on. all vehicles had to pass over the stream about 2 feet deep.My Indica turbo did the same. The end result - the water level was above my doors, silencer, A/C duct.The stream was probably about 20 feet wide. I did the cross after a long prayer and nothing happened. I still cannot explain how we managed that- But the point to note here was that no water seeped into the car at all, at least through the doors. I think that would explain why it probably does not happen in these cases.

As I have both Maruti and Mahindra, I can easily say that spares for both the makes are equally easily available and are quite cheap. But where M&M takes the cake is the sheer customer service. Just try getting a problem fixed under warranty in a Maruti, you'll know what I'm talking about. M&M guys go out of their way to please customers. There are already quite a few people in T-BHP who have upgraded within the M&M stable, which goes on their commitment.

@AWD: The entire scorpio fleet is BS-IV. The DI Turbo is available in both BS-II & BS-III. As the CRDe is the same Xylo unit, I think it is already BS-IV compliant

Bolero is not just the No.1 SUV in India. It is the SUV with best mileage figures too. Mr. Seby. K clocked a mileage of 35.15 Kms/litre at The Mahindra Bolero Mileage Marathon In Kochi.


Now this mileage must be under ideal driving conditions of minimum use of clutch and smooth acceleration with top speed not more than 45 kmph or something. But under real world conditions also, bolero can still return a mileage of 17-18 kmph which is awesome for a SUV like bolero.

I am surprised to hear this. I owned a Maruti Zen before upgrading to Bolero. While the Suraksha guys (for my Maruti) were Ok with me hanging around my vehicle the whole day, whenever I left my vehicle for service, the Sireesh guys (for my Bolero) insist that I wait at the customer lounge, from where I do not even get to see my car.

when we had our swift I used to prefer to go to Green Cars - a privately owned Authorized Maruti Service Centre but not attached to any showroom or anything. their service was always "personal" and of very good quality. and the best part was that I used to lurk in the workshop and observe the work being done on my car.

ref Mahindra - I ve always liked the erstwhile Vijai Auto/ Now owned by SKS but bought over lock stock and barrel with all the same service personnel. The service I get there right from the days I had the Bolero and now with the Scorpio is excellent.

Even here they dont grumble but allow me to spend time with the service people and observing matters and learning things about the vehicle when it is ramped up. Patient answers to various questions, reasonable bills and Im happy.

Saying this, I still miss my Bolero - recently drove my friend's DI Turbo and enjoyed it a lot.
