Tork T6X electric bike spotted testing

Pune-based Tork Motors had unveiled the T6X - its first electric bike back in October 2016. Now, a test mule of the two-wheeler has been spotted.

The Tork T6X is a fully-electric street bike based on a trellis frame. The spy images suggest that the bike is likely to get telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear. It offers an upright riding position with rear set foot pegs and raised handle bars. The bike has a triangular headlamp and a large battery pack mounted just behind the front wheel.

At the time of unveiling, Tork Motors had announced that the T6X would be powered by an electric motor with an output 27 Nm of torque. It is claimed to have a top speed of 100 km/h. The battery pack is IP certified and is said to offer a maximum range of 100 km on a single charge. The test bike has a chain drive and an unusually large rear sprocket. The bike's braking setup consists of disc brakes at both ends with a combined braking system (CBS).

Small correction. They launched it with a pricetag of 1.25L, not unveiled.

Pune-based startup Tork Motorcycles has successfully launched India’s first electric motorcycle, the T6X. The Tork T6X is the production version of the company’s fifth prototype and is aiming to revolutionize the vast Indian two wheeler market.

Claimed it had been tested for over 7 years -

Quote:
Built after extensive research and testing of 7 years, some of the noteworthy highlights of the new Tork T6X are full digital display, quick charge and superior acceleration, DRL, ABS, CBS, anti-theft, geo-sensing, Front and rear disc brakes, 17-inch tubeless tyres etc. Weighing 130 kgs, the battery delivers a peak torque of 27 Nm. The battery pack is IP67 certified water and dust resistant.

Took 1000 bookings -

This is reiterated by the fact that the motorcycle has already crossed a whopping 1000 plus pre-booking within 24 hours.

And had nothing to show for the next 2 years. Full respect to what Ather achieved from concept to production during this period in comparison - even though they are going through their own troubles as well.

Torq T6X should also have been unveiled as a concept that time. We would have been proud of an Indian effort when the first spy pic surfaced, but at this point - I'm not sure if their business ethics sound right.

Re: Tork T6X electric bike spotted testing

The Question as a Consumer for me: Why should I consider this Product and not a Yamaha MT15?

1. The Yamaha is priced at almost the same price point

2. On the Yamaha: One just has to visit the Petrol Pump (available nearly anywhere on earth) when the fuel level is low. Tank up in about a Minute.

3. The Yamaha can be taken anywhere: City - Highway - Laddakh

4. The Tech behind the Yamaha is proven

Why should I consider an EV Motorcycle?

Valid. Same question as with the case of Ather (where competing scooters cost far less!)

Couple of reasons (though even I won't be buying one, till electric vehicles get well sorted) -

1. Novelty factor.

2. City performance. (Torq seems to claim 27Nm torque compared to 14.7Nm of the MT15).

Not Strong Enough reason for for me to consider an EV .

1. The Fear/Anxiety of me getting stranded somewhere is just too strong to convince me other wise.

If it takes more than 1 min (have been spoilt by petrol stations) for a full charge, then building a extensive Charging Grid is not enough as well.

2. Also the battery pack would need to be replaced after a few years.. which according to what I have heard costs a small fortune.

Three words: Air Quality Index. Isn't being a resident of Delhi reason enough to go for an EV?

I see a significant spike in no. of Evs in my city (Chennai) and even in Bangalore and our pollution levels are not remotely as bad as in Delhi. Seeing a lot of Athers and Nexons and a few unnamed brands too. Whether they are changing because it is cheaper to run or if they're environmentally conscious I don't know but its nice to see that people are not afraid of change.

The only reasons one shouldn't choose an EV is

if your'e commute is more than 50-75 kms/day (for now)
If you live in a flat where you cannot charge your ev
if you cant afford the high upfront costs.

But all this is bound to change in the near future as the tech is constantly being updated. Its not like IC engines were lightyears ahead when they were first commercialised. They were only slightly better than a horse and were also highly inefficient. The famous first motor car by Carl Benz made a piddling 1.5 hp from a 1000ccs but the rest is history. Compared to the IC engine though battery tech has advanced leaps and bounds in a very short span and its only a matter of time when they're on par if not better than IC engines.

There may be reasons to not go for the above product but there is a strong case for buying any of the established products like Ather or Revolt and the Nexon in case of cars.

Evs make most sense in congested city streets where one spends most of the time standing and idling their vehicles at traffic signals or jams. An ev doesn't emit anything when standing still. I guess most people here have atleast 2 bikes in their garage like a scooter for local commutes and a bike for long distances. It makes perfect sense to change the petro scoot for an ev for just commuting. I am a petrolhead at heart too but commuting is a mundane activity for me and I just want to get the journey over with and for that an Ev will perfectly suffice.

Cheers.

I wish them all success.

Only one comment: The marketing department better come up with a more acceptable name. I feel that they should stop naming bikes after some cooked up mythological Greek Demon/God. "Release the Kraken" may have been the deal here except with mistaken proportions.

Take a page from BMW's book, stick to numbers.

Re: Tork T6X electric bike spotted testing

Isn't the Revolt India's first electric motorcycle? With the kind of movement Tork motors has had in the last six years I doubt there will be any enthusiasm unless they come out with a top notch product with the ability to back it up with aftersales.

Re: Tork T6X electric bike spotted testing

I like the concept.

Some info from their insta page.
Quote:
A lot has been spoken about Make in India. I believe the right approach should Develop in India for the world. Tork has been relentless in the approach of Make/Develop in India. We almost went to the point that sometimes we feel we are MADe IN INDIA.

We have recently started to ship our motor for our two-wheeler and some other applications. A few aspects that are worth mentioning are Tork will be the first manufacturer to commercially utilise the advantage of an Axial Flux Technology in a two-wheeler in India. I believe we might be one of the only few in the world.

For a typical radial flux motor, the peak efficiency lies between 85-90%. Whereas with AFM the efficiency can range between 90-96%. This is huge if you consider the saving, we could have on battery size and longevity.

The efficiency of the electric motor is determined by copper and iron losses. The absence of iron stator yoke significantly lowers iron losses.

Re: Tork T6X electric bike spotted testing

many unknowns on this bike and few questions to ponder:
Is the fast charging port CCS2?
what is the 0-60kph speed (really don't care about 0-40)
does Kratos support fast charging or is it only Kratos R?
48V seems low voltage system.

Will wait for reviews before jumping onto this.

It's a slow bike. 0-40 in 4 seconds means it's probably around as fast as your average 150cc bike. But on the bright side, it's also priced to compete with 150cc bikes. Fast charging only on the R variant.
