Detailing My Royal Enfield Interceptor | The Detailing Mafia (Anna Nagar, Chennai)

Why Detailing Mafia?

Around Q1 of 2022, I was searching for a detailer to clean my Interceptor; most detailers around my place are good enough for making money & with cars. Accidentally I stumbled upon a post in FB with a clean Orange Crush Interceptor 650. Called up to affirm they will work on Interceptor & they confirmed they will. Then one priority over other dragged things to Jan 2023 when I visited the place, had an interaction with the owner, who was pleasant to talk to. He asked to give a call a day before & confirm the appointment. Called on 22 Mar 2023 for an appointment for 23, but they were full. Tried again on 28-Apr for 29-Apr, they were full.

Tried on 13-Jul, again they were full for 14-Jul, but they said they're open on 16-Jun. Didn't want to postpone this time & thus made on 16 Jul.

Not going to write too much as I'm quite happy with the job done, it was just cleaning & polishing, no PPF, ceramic coating as I only wanted the vehicle to be clean & will get similar clean up done annually or so. Wallet dented for Rs 3500+GST=Rs 4130.

Although I visited the place at 9:40 Am {they're open to business by 10:00}, they started working only by 10:45 or so allowing the engine to cool down; practically speaking they wasted 45 minutes, but rationally speaking, this is the right approach that I've always followed. What I personally like about their business model is that, hey don't succumb to unnecessary pressure, such as taking on do it now tasks. They prioritize quality over quantity and politely decline when they are full for each task they undertake. I personally witnessed redirecting a few customers to other places stating they were fully occupied for the day. Speaking to the owner, Mr. Vineeth said, they are content with a limited number of customers and are dedicated to ensuring satisfaction with each and every one of them. It's not just recommended, but strongly advised to book appointment in advance before visiting this place. From my experience, it's not a day's booking in advance, but would give 2-3 days in advance to get your slot.

What I like:
  • Punctual to keep up the time & work carried out strictly through appointment
  • Amidst of Fortuner & BMW, a humble motorcycle was being detailed {they said they detail even my Rx}
  • Very polite staffs, highly focused at work, no chitchatting & a very down to earth owner
  • Work is carried out to Customer's satisfaction

What I don't like:
  • Sometime the appointment can be annoying if you cannot find your desired slot
  • The Customer lounge is not an ambient place
  • If you've an Eagle eyes, you may want to ask them to clean certain areas as its easier for them to overlook a few tiny areas {But then this is really not an issue as they kept asking me several times & worked to my satisfaction}

Pricing:I find their prices are quite reasonable

Hi aargee

Your Inty looks as good as new. May be you could do a mini photo-shoot for us!

The pricing seems quite reasonable for the amount of work they have done. The engine covers and the rocker covers I guess are the biggest pain point to keep clean and shiny when it comes to the RE Twins.

By the way, did your Interceptor come with the chrome mirrors as stock? My GT came with all black mirrors, even in it's Mr. Clean avatar. Guess RE deleted them somewhere along the way.

Re: Detailing My Royal Enfield Interceptor | The Detailing Mafia (Anna Nagar, Chennai)

Hi Aargee,

I hate to be "that" guy but the engine casings aren't really detailed as well considering that this is a detailing oriented activity. I love my interceptor as well and frankly just using autosol and old towels, I am able to bring the casings (along with other parts) almost to a chrome finish level like the silencers.

I agree that the bike looks cleaner than what you brought but honestly I was expecting better results than what I usually get done with a Rs. 100 bike wash and a couple of hours of my own elbow grease.

Disclaimer - I am not associated with autosol in any way.

Aargee ji, I would echo Vikram's sentiment. Being a user of Autosol myself, though I haven't owned a chrome blinged moto, but when it comes to buffing out oxidized aluminum, grainy stainless steel etc, I am pretty much sure an hour or twos worth of elbow, knee and shoulder grease would have really brought out this shine in home. Even better, a cheap buffing machine in home, would cut that time in half. The palliative aspect though is, you're sans of all that elbow grease and sweat and perhaps that should be a solace for the amount paid.

Cheers!
VJ

Hello boss, these days I'm not having the luxury of time. The folks at detailing center took hardly about half hour to buff the engine casing on both the sides which otherwise gobbles easily 2-3 hours {or even more} of my time. I chose to spend time constructively on few other things while the vehicle was being detailed.

And when it comes to detailing, no matter how hard, how expensive & how clean we workout, even if unused for a week, the vehicle is certainly going to get dirty for sure. So 3-4 hours of polishing, say in 6 months or so is fine for me.

But yes, I'll try & find out a different detailer to see if the engine casing can shine better next time

Hi Aargee,

I agree with Vikram and by that I no means to hurt your sentiments or anyone over here but just saying that the work done is really not upto the mark and there's a blue tint kind of effect and I could see the water marks to be still present in the engine casings on the pictures. I also own a Mark 2 Interceptor and trust me I use Autosol and it just costs me 300 readily available on Amazon and boy oh boy what wonder it does but definitely it does command some of your weekend time but enthusiasts like us can easily take that out I believe and results are 10x much better than spending 1000s for these kind of mediocre jobs. Will post here my bikes picture soon just to describe better.

Ride safe!

Hi Aargee,

Sure, there are in to particular order but all were done with Autosol and a bike wash. Took me close to 2 hours just for both the casings. I actually bought a small plastic stool so I could sit comfortably next to the bike and recently have started using an old toothbrush along with the towels.

Last 2 pics are more recent and the bike had clocked 25,000 kms at that point.

I get that blue tint initially too. You need to keep working through it and eventually it gives way to that shine on the other side. These guys are on the right track but they stopped maybe 15 mins too soon. That buffing machine will definitely cut down the polish time.

Posted pics in a separate post of my bike.
