I personally would prefer blue tooth anyday. And traditionally a radio person with no major requirement to have hifi system in the car though the jetta comes with pretty decent set up. At the same time since i use multiple devices up front i actually wont mind just the outlet sitting right at the top of the dash up front. Hate to hook up connections where the wire goes over the stereo system and what not.

Center console is good as long as i am not touching the device every now and then. I usually have two USB charger wires coming from the central console to charge phones. My 12V splitter now sits on top of the dash which provides no nonsense connection to GPS or DVR's.

If i do build a dash i will route those 12V connectors to the front the car right close to the windshield and i may even do it as a DIY by drilling small holes.

Love the Figos' Mydock which is a blessing for us guys who use our phones for navigation purposes.

Used to like the glove box location a few years back but right now my favorite position barring the unique Mydock is in the bottom of the centre console with a deep cubbyhole/storage area.


The glovebox location is good too, but its only present in the top end cars or expensive cars. Cheaper ones do not even have armrest, let alone storage space underneath it.

BTW, hate dangling wires, especially pissed off seeing the Jazz having dangling wires in the glovebox, when it has good USB/Aux points in the bottom of the centre console in the VX variant.

I personally like Honda City's (the 2008 variant) way of handling it. There's a dedicated space behind the entertainment display which can be folded down. You can connect via USB/AUX and it's got enough space to keep an iPod touch or even a phone. Else, you can even bring the wire out after putting the display in place if you want the phone/music handy.

The center console base comes in a close second though; only issue being the lack of option of hiding the phone.

I'm a strict bluetooth guy and use Wynk to download songs and stream them when in my 2014 Honda City (V). The connectivity with my Android phone is excellent and I can also use the steering remote to control the playlist.

The advantage of having it on the center console base is that if I have to charge 2 phones together, I can use the 12v and the USB sockets to charge the phones simultaneously and at the same time the phones are relatively out of view from outside.

My Dzire (VXI) has the input on the head unit and I find it looks pretty bad esp if you use a big pen drive and not the micro ones. Also, to connect the phone with AUX, the wire would dangle from there near the gear lever to the place where I can keep the phone. I just hate dangling wires and feel they are hazardous.

Under the driver's armrest and in the glovebox would leave them susceptible to damage in my opinion. I normally keep biscuits in my armrest to distribute on the road and as you know nowadays the glovebox is like a battle zone considering the size!

Center console for me. It's simple, get the smallest pendrive you can and load it up.
I use this one, 16 GB for 435 Rs., and it's barely larger than the USB plug.

HU also is ok

In the glove box is my least preferred way - if I have to change anything, either i have to stop the car, or request the passenger in the front seat to do this.

Yep. I have the same one from the last few years. The only problem is it too darn small and is VERY EASY to loose/misplace this. After spending one whole day trying to locate this after misplacing it in my wardrobe, I have attached a small string to make this more easily traceable as well as it doesn't obstruct anything else.

But why would you unplug it? Load it up with music, if it is 8 or 16 gig, you shouldn't need to change it often.

I prefer them on the head unit.
Though it is a bit of obstruction, I would like to see which thumb-drive is playing (I have my collections on several thumbdrives).
Even with aux, the aux cable, if neatly tucked is not an obstruction and I got used to it.

On the other hand, I feel placing them in glovebox is not preferableas they may get entangled when handling stuff in and out of the glove box. There is also a potential risk that any liquids (spills or consensation on cold beverages) may damage the connections in the glove box.

I listen to the radio a lot! I listen to CDs - some times!

I use mobile for GPS navigation - almost all the time - even on roads and routes which I take daily!

2~4 times a week, I land up doing Mumbai Pune travelling.

Most of the time, I use my Honda City ZX VTEC (2006 model) and some times my WagonR VXI (2011 model).

Both do not have USB facility as standard.

At least the WagonR has Aux - though I never succeeded in finding out how to make it work.... Off-Topic - can someone help me here?

I have a Belkin inverter and use it regularly. It is reliable but there are too many wires all over! I have to connect a mains charger to use with the mobile. It also has a USB built-in - but I found that the charging is not as fast as the drain due to internet and GPS and Google Maps.

I am looking forward to see how my new Jazz V-CVT works out for me!

Note: during my test drive of the Scorpio S10 manual, I noticed that it as at the bottom of the central console - but very difficult to reach. Similarly, during my Zoomcar drive of the XUV 5OO W6, I actually liked the covered USB and power source. Only thing was that the mobile had to be kept on the open cover. So, if I had to take a sharp turn it slipped off!

So, I think the question of where to keep the USB and AUX should be separate for both. AND there should be another question for "how to keep the connected device(s)?". I am not saying that I have a proposed solution! I saw a lot of good suggestions here. I am sure if TBHPians start thinking on this - a host of solutions will crop up!

The "in the glove box" shown in the pics of the jazz is present only for the top VX variant. All the others get it at the central console base along with the 12v socket. And my vote also goes with the same IMO it is more convenient and easily accessible for the driver.

If it's down at the base of the center console, it's more out of view.

By visible, I meant more in terms of visible to the driver for navigation, see who is calling, etc. If the phone is kept down, you can't use it for seeing directions, etc.

While the unplugging of USB may not be a regular occurrence, you will get new music/songs/etc. which you want to include in the USB. The point is, if it is carried around in pocket for some reason, it is quite easy to misplace this and a thread or tag really helps!

I prefer USB in some hidden area (inside arm rest / glove box)
I came across a couple of cases were the car side glasses were broken just to steal the thumb drive

I prefer the bluetooth as it eliminates the hassle of wires but the sound quality suffers. If I need to use the USB I think the most convenient place would be in the cupholder area right next to the gear lever

Would actually prefer two USB locations. One on the ceter console for phone dock and other hidden under the arm rest which would have a large capacity music player like iPod connected and nicely kept hidden.

Actually I feel it would be ideal to have a single inferface for voice, data and power. Today if you connect your phone to the Head unit via USB, it charges the phone and also accesses memory for media. But for a voice connection, one still needs to pair it via Bluetooth. There is no voice over USB. Of course blue tooth is a convenience to have. For music I would always prefer a wired connection.
