JBL GT5 Series

Can Sam enlighten us more?

What's in the new product range?
When will they be available?
How much will they cost?

I can enlighten you. To some extent only.

Firstly, I can inform you that the products were to arrive into India earlier. I know you are referring to the media launch. You have probably seen the advertising.

Unfortunately the ads arrived before the product did, leaving a huge amount of curiosity in the market lol.

The GT5 series is a brand new series. As of now JBL has 2 commercially successful series - GTO 7series and CS series. The GTO is generally more path breaking and technologically advanced, while the CS series is generally made out of older GTO technology, often the last years.

Recognising the need for a high quality mid end speaker, JBL has created a whole new series, completely independent of GTO R&D, called the GT5 series, which will offer unparalleled performance at it's price points.

Only one product has been released in India, the GT5 subwoofer, discussed elsewhere on another thread.

I will let you know when further products are released. I have my limitations as far as giving more info is concerned that I am sure you can appreciate. As of now I can make one serious official statement.

Remember you heard it here first. On Team-BHP.

All CS series speakers and amplifiers have now been discontinued. Only the CS series Subwoofer Tube and Sealed box will remain current.

Please consider this fact when making your next JBL purchase.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

GT5 Series goes between CS (now discontinued) and the higher GTO Series?

So there will still only be two series, GT5 and GTO. Am I right that the GTO series will still be the higher of the two?

Yes, you would be correct in that assumption.
While the GT5 will be newly designed from the ground up, it will be priced and positioned lower than the GTO (7) series of speakers and amplifiers.

The CS series of coaxials (2165, 3196 etc) and 1 model of component(2165C) and 3 models of amplifiers(60.4, 60.2, 300.1) are now officially discontinued. The GT4-12 subwoofer is also discontinued.

This is a tricky question. Obviously there is nothing wrong with a CS60.4, discontinued or not an amplifier is an amplifier.

Obviously, you will find trickle stock of the CS60.4 in the market. You, as TBHPians know that it is now disconned, the public does not know this yet.
I would say, if you get a good price, you should go for it.

It will soon be replaced by the GT5 amplifiers. I can tell you that the expected time the GT5 amps will hit the shelves will be October 3rd week.

not getting a real good price for it sam as of now.. i think i have to do my homework upon this

BTW can you give in any idea (slightest idea would do the trick) about the pricing of the GT5 amps (and if possible the pricing of GTO 75.4 when GT5 amps are launched ).. would really help

i think i'll not be going in for a discontinued series anyway, would opt for pio 6300 or any other equivalent instead

cheers

There will be a 2channel economic option and a 4 channel option priced similarly to the 60.4.

I sure hope the GT5 amps have similar circuit topology and packaging as the 4060. Sam dont ask me how I got my hands on the 4060 circuit topology. For if you do I'd have to lie. :-)

Of course it's OK wanderer. It's a good speaker, tried and tested. And you should be happy with your purchase.

Go forth wanderer, sit in your car and enjoy the music. Thats what all of this is about.
