Bangalore to Virajpet

I am planning to drive to Virajpet from Bangalore. I would appreciate any advise on the road conditions and any other helpful tips.

I travelled on the road in June 2007 and the roads were pretty good (clocked till 100). There were a few places where the roads were still being laid where we had to slow down, otherwise, the road was pretty good.

I travelled from Mysore to Virajpet yesterday. The roads are OK.
Route followed: Mysore - Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet

From Bangalore to Mysore it's a breeze. Mysore to Hunsur is also good. You'll need to take a left a few KMs after Hunsur. This road has been fixed up, but it is quite small in lot of places (two cars wide). Once you enter Coorg district (inside Titimati forest area) the road is wide and neat, but for occasional craters (i remember there were two manholes... ).

It rained cats and dogs yesterday... and when it rains you got to be double carefull when driving in puddles. Also the shoulders are washed away by the rain, so the edges are quite steep.

When are you planning to go?

Oh yeah... and watch out for pachyderms in Titimati forest...

Regards,
The road till Hunsur is flawless. (I think SH88). Beyond that, the road to Virajpet detoriates linearly.
If fact beyond Gunikoppal towards Iritty its very bad.

But I think Virajpet you should be able to manage. But definitely you cannot zip through as you can do on the Hunsur road.

Is it better to go to Madikeri and then to Virajpet from there?
I know for sure that the roads upto Madikeri are in good shape.

Regards,
The question where you plan to stay in Coorg. For south Coorg Virajpet is the area. For north, its Madekeri.

I think south Coorg has more home stays, North Coorg (Read Medikeri town) has more hotels. Others can correct me/comment.

Route condition till Gonikkuppa is updated in the thread -> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...needed-38.html

Road is good beyond Gonikkuppa till Virajpet. Beyond Hunsur, the roads are doable but there are occassional big Potholes.

Thanks
Rajesh

The roads are very bad now (just returned yesterday from Virajpet) between Hunsur and Gonikoppa. Virajpet-Gonikoppa road is just a little better. Kushalnagar-Virajpet road is also not in good condition. Take the Siddapura-Periyapatna-Hunsur route instead. Even this is not a breeze like the Elivala-Hunsur stretch, but its drivable at least.

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

Any update on current road condition to Virajpet? I am driving up to kakkabe just beyond Virajpet and wondering what is the best route to take:
1 Hunsur>Titimathi> Gonikoppal>Virajpet --SHortest (60 KM) but apparently road conditions not good
2 Hunsur>Kushalnagar>Dubare>Siddhapura>Ammati>Virajp et -Longer (80 Km) but better roads ?
I will be in my Alto VX so need reasonably decent roads.

Why not Hunsur - Periyaptna - Siddhapura - Ammathi - Virajpet ?? Could be better that the option 1.

Thanks
Rajesh
