New 2007 model civic for less

Hello,

I have booked for a 2008 model Civic, but dealer says it would take end of Jan for delivery. I have also learned that dealer has got handful of 2007 model Civic in their garage. And they are ready for some cash discounts about 20K. Hows this deal. ??

Resale value of 2007 model vs 2008 model after 5 yrs would be around 20k. So I guess dealer is trying to cover that upfront to take the customer in their side

Here in gurgaon they are offering 30K discount for 2007 built Civics, though colors left in stock are only sky blue and black.

We tried the civic for my friend,we rejected the car for low ground clearance and lack of juice in low-end(compared to diesels).I found the car to crash into potholes.

may be going for a 2008 one would be fine if at all its 20000 more .you cant predict if the diff between 2007 and 2008 would be after 5 yrs.if you have the option go for 2008.wait a bit, because maybe there is some small changes or new colors.and the best thing is to wait till march as there is some excise duty excemption comming across in the budget for big cars.

As far as i know the date of the registration matters for resale and not the date of manufacture..

there's a separate thread discussing this. the conclusion that seemed to emerge on that one was that for jan registered cars in similar condition, a dec manufacture would fetch less than a jan manufacture in the second hand market

Previous year i've been offered 40k discount on M/T & 50K on A/T but color choice was limited, so i'm pretty sure you'll get more than 20k if you hassle with the dealers .

im thinking how much will a 2006 civic fetch after 5 years. its scary that they too will be for 5 years. people like me who keep cars for 10 years all these expensive cars are not really a good buy thought i really want to get a new civic in purple that too auto its very scary

For a difference of only 20,000, I'd recommend waiting a month till 2008 cars are available.

thanks folks, overall feeling seems to be get a higher discount (close to 50k) or wait for 2008 model. Also, I very specific on colour too, going for white.

I used carwale.com to estimate the resale value.

If the difference is around 20k, then go for the 2007 model.

If difference is above 50k, go for the 2008 model.

old stock can also mean "items that could not be sold for some reason"

it helps to be a paranoid ;-)

Wait for a week or so. I am sure the discount will increase of the car is not sold. Then decide.

I sold my car expecting the new to be available by 2nd week on Jan. I checked the 2nd dealer and they say new Civic would be available by 2nd week. So looks like my dealer is trying push 2007.

Expecting 50K discount on Civic seems to be unrealistic. I am expecting a call from the dealer today.
