Any experience with overhauling alternator for palio 1.2 2002

So the alternator of my palio 2002 1.2 is undercharging the battery.

Options are

a> To replace for 13000 rs

b> get a good electrician affiliated with a battery shop to
open it for 350 rs and see if the rectifier/capacitors are working and estimate for parts then is around rs 4000.

Does anyone have experience in getting their alternator for a palio 1.2 repaired? Did it last for a while?

Who makes alternators for the Palio? Lucas? If so, get the alternator completely overhauled by a Lucas service center itself. They will make it run good as new.

A 7 year old Palio 1.2 is probably worth 1.3 - 1.5 lakhs today. Why spend like 10% of your cars worth on an alternator alone?

Does Fiat add gold and silver in it ?

Even an Alto alternator has list price of Rs. 4800

I got mine (on a Siena 1.6) done recently. Don't remember the split up but the total bill was under 5k. Changed the rectifier & regulator in addition to repairs. A small bolt went into the alternator causing damage. In addition I changed engine oil and filter (regular service). All included in the above price.

@GTO: I think it is Bosch. (will go home and check, but the internet research seems to point towards Bosch).

Do Bosch Service centers do the same type of job? And is there a good one in Mumbai. The ones I see on the net seem to be branded under different vendor names.

No need to really say more about the company. I got mine done with my mechanic itself. He's an expert on all Fiat electricals. Didn't know about the Bosch option otherwise I would have gone there.

The alternators are from Lucas at least for Stiles. You can always drop in there and get your alternator serviced

Issue resolved: Got the alternator fixed at the Opera House place. The cutout had gone bad. It was a Bosch Alternator for the Palio 1.2 2002. He is a authorized service center for both Bosch and Lucas.

Small but very neat and clean setup (he has a garage in another place), with both Bosch and Lucas diagnostic equipment, lathes, and a site I have not seen in too many small shops...parts in jars which are labelled The person in charge is called Shekhar.

Overall a very good experience.

Now let me see how long the repair lasts! He has given a warranty.

Alternator for my GTX seems to have gone kaput. I need to get it checked/ repaired. Will check out the place mentioned by you in Opera House.
BTW how much did the repairs cost? Any idea how much a new alternator would cost?

I bought new alternator for palio 1.2 for 5.5-6k a year back from prakash motors, milan subway.

350 or 300 to open up the alternator and diagnose/fix (non refundable ) and 1500 for the part...(cutout).
So 1800/1850 in total. The bill depends on the number of parts which are faulty, can be cutout, diode etc.

Still running fine..touch wood.

You should call them and let them know you before showing up (it is a small shop and was quite busy when I had gone. )

New alternator, i was quoted around 11000-12000 plus by my contact in Wasan. That seems to be the general price floating around on fiat newsgroups also

6 K for a palio alternator as mentioned by @gigy is a great price if it is still available at that range.

why do the alternators have issues like this in cars just 7yrs old.??
back at home. lancer 1998 arounnd 3 lakh kms still no problems whatsoever to alternator and stuff. its bone stock still now. can this be a reason?.

i dont know about the brand in lancer can anyone confirm. just in case so that i can inform my folks which service center to take it to in case something goes wrong
