Manza Quadrajet - Car refusing to start.

Maruti fan boys are going to whack me left and right. I have canceled a dzire vdi four days before the delivery and went with a Manza QJ Abs in February 2010.

I have completed 4300km on the car and till yesterday everything was fine. Yesterday the car was not starting and I called the helpline number of KHT Motors, Bangalore for help. Those guys were busy with another customer and told me to wait for two hours. So just for a reassurance I thought of dialing TATA's toll free number 1 800 209 7979 . To my horror, I heard the number is switched off. Well done, TATA! So much for trusting your brand even after many warnings from well wishers.

So now the car is in KHT Motors service center and they are not really giving me any proper update on whats wrong with the car. I think they are yet to find out. However, I just noticed someone else also faced the same issue with a Feb 2010 make manza . Link Here []MOVIE Review, HOTEL Review, MOBILE PHONE Review, BOOK Review, CAR Review, CAMERA Review - MouthShut.com . And it looks like electric problem was the reason for his car's failure.

I have forgiven all the niggles came with the car and remained as a happy customer till yesterday. But this was too much of a dose for me.

I shall update as and when I hear from the service guys. Does anyone else faced the similar issue on their manza?

How can you be so sure that its Engine failure. It could be as simple as a faulty battery (which will be replaced under warranty). So please relax, and wait for what the service center has to say.

Better still, pay them a visit. All the best.

I am editing the title till something conclusive comes out.

Thanks Eddy for the appropriate changes. Engine failure may be a wrong wording. Inexperience and lack of right words in my automotive vocabulary caused it

Yesterday, the service folks came home and we have tested the battery, all the fuses and diesel tubes. It turned out that, while turning the ignition diesel is not pumping from the tank. So we again checked all the wires and fuses related to the fuel pumping. Everything looked okay to them. Then they towed the car to service center.

Yeah, the service guys are very courteous whenever I call them. Though yet to get a proper answer on what went wrong with the car.

Was about to say the same thing.
Most likely its a problem with the electricals (fuse etc.)

Sajan, what exactly do you mean by not starting? Was it not even cranking? Were rest of the electricals working fine?

Absolutely Eddy. Car not starting can be a result of hundreds of possible causes including a discharged battery. And I believe it will be one such thing.

Sajan it is not proper to scream from the rooftops about an engine failure even before we know the reason for the same. As Eddy suggested you are probably better off paying a visit to the A.S.S. where the car has been sent. For all that you know they are not responding because of that age old Tata achilles heels.

Their service stations are so badly loaded that they just keep the cars without their owners being present there on one side and try to sort out the issues with the cars whose owners are standing there in the A.S.S. and being a bit "difficult". Go there and ask them to take an immediate look. Let them know that you are not happy that a new car had to visit the service folks so early out of its scheduled service period. They will immediately attend to your car. And for all that you know you may drive out with all issues sorted withing 20 minutes.

just got a call from the service center. They says its 'some electrical problem' and fixed it. I have asked him to give me detailed information. Then he said, his sr.manager will call me once he and their gm takes a test drive on the car. I am hoping to hear from them soon with more details on what happened.

IMO "Electrical problem" is probably the best news in a case like this.

Perhaps the starter motor conked.
Let us know what they say.

Folks, Just to give an update. The same day itself I got the car back. As per the service adviser, it was a faulty socket that caused the trouble. He has taken the car a long test drive and made sure that everything is working fine. At no point, they give me a chance to get angry or yell at them. Though, I didn't get a proper explanation on why it happened .

However, ever since they fixed this issue I have two more issues on the car. Now my Instant Mileage shows for 100Km per liter. Before that car used to display 25KMP/L or 18.5KM/L on the instant mileage display. Now the car display 4L/100KM or 7.5L/100KM etc . It's weird. Noticed it only after I left the service center. Called them up and they didn't understand what I was trying to say.

Now, I am getting mileage just below 11KM/L. Previously it used to be 15.3KM/l in city. My second service is due in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully they will fix these issues then.

@zappo. Actually my experience with the service center is very nice . The guys are ready to listen and help all the time. Attention to details is another issue though. However, they made sure that they are not giving me a chance to get angry during the two days I dealt with them

ps: Thanks to all for the comforting words. Just that I got freaked out to see starting problem to a new car. My previous 5 year old Santro and 7 year old Zen never had such issues. So the bp went up in short time

I got a Quadrajet two days ago. I hope Kmpl problem is fixed now, this is just another style of showing the same data. Instead of Km/l, the system is showing the liters per 100 Kilometers (European style). You can choose different option using 'mode' button.

Help! Car doesn't start

I have a Indigo CS GLX 2009 model. Today, I was going to take the car out for shopping.

When I put the keys in and put them into on position, I heard a weird sound that lasted for 2 seconds.
When I tried to crank the starter, nothing happened. I wonder what could be the problem. I tried this atleast 5-6 times but engine didn't crank. I was able the run the fan inside the cabln using battery power. The lights were glowing properly with key was in On position.
I also heard some sound near key hole when I pressed hazard button.

Could it be the problem with the electrical connection?
or Could it be problem with the starter/battery?
Should I call local mechanic or TASS guys for looking into the problem. Kindly help me.

Re: Help! Car doesn't start

It could be battery. Once it happened on my wagon r. One fine morning, the car refused to start. Pushed and started (not recommended by Maruti). Took to Service centre. There car started. But it didn't take the 3rd start. They said my battery is gone. And same day I bought a new battery. Its better to inform TASS or your mechanic.

Is the engine turning over? Do you hear clicks when you turn the key?

Thanks nozzlering.

Any idea, about the total cost involved here. Just want to be prepared from my side. Also, little hesitant with TASS guys after reading many stories on the forum.

Guys, which is one is the best/honest TASS in Hyderabad which is closer to Panjjgutta, Srinagar colony area. How is the Concorde motors @Sanathnagar?

Re: Help! Car doesn't start

Is the car running on oe battery ? Switch ON headlights and cabin light ON and see what happens to cabin light when you crank. If it dims off, it's a battery issue.
