One day trip to Nandi Hills & BhogaNandishwara Temple...

I had my relatives who visited Bangalore for the last week. Since I was little busy in office, i could not take them out anywhere. But they managed to go to places like Vidhan Soudha, Cubbon park, Baneerghatta safari etc all by themselves. Infact they managed to get into Vidhan Soudha and visited all inside. I have never got a chance for this.

Anyway, so I was planing to take them to Nandi hills for the Sunrise. Since when I saw the Bogalingeswar temple in hari's thread, I wanted to visit there too. So, talked with hari, got the direction and all set to go.

We planned to start by 5Am from Brooke field so we can reach there before 6:30AM. With this plan in mind we go to sleep.

Saturday Morning 3:30AM

I got up even before the alarm went off. I was trying to get others wake up, have bath and get ready for the trip. Had garam garam Coffee, and packed teh stuff for Nandhi since our Guide (Hari) said you get nothing good in nandhi hills. Finally when we all set and boarded the car, it was 5;30AM.

Took the K.R.Puram, Hebbal, Devanahalli route. I was driving at 90-100kmph and it was a delight to go so early when there was no traffic.

Saturday Morning 6:00AM
But when I reached Devanahallli railway cross, it was 6;15am and I could see the Sun comming up on my right. So we thought we will not be able to get to nandhi hills before sun rise. My uncle son was keeping the camera and takign pictures of the Sun. i thought ok, since I was driving. (Later in the noon we came to know that he was ONLY seeing through the cam - LCD view - and not actually taking pictures ). So, thats how we missed those orange ball.

When I was driving almost near the left turn to the Nandhi Hills, I was doing around 80kmph and there was no sign of any humps. So far I was searching for the BIG hump mentioned by hari and since I did not find any, I took some confidence and doing 80kmph. Bad luck, I suddenly see a hump and almost near it so I could not control. Anyway I braked and thud on the breaker and it was a real jump. I was cursing myself since I was informed of this the previous day and still missed it.

Man, I don't mind having huge humps, but please make a sign or something so its visible. This one was not at all visible unless you are very near to that.

Saturday Morning 6:30AM
Then I took the left (There was a small board, which you cannot miss IF you are careful) The Hill is around 24KMs from this point.

Took that till the end (around 12Kms.) and then took left to Nandhi Hills. If you take right from here, you reach Bogalingeswarar in next 5-6 kms.

After the left, the roads was pretty ok and i was doing around 40-50.

Nice pictures of the road & the car (we understand your love for the car ) and perhaps next lot is of nandi hills.

You are right there are no proper road signs and you have to be careful as the stretch is clear and wide open.

You see a small Nandhi sitting on top of a pillar. We took that right and stopped immd for having some coffee. Anyway the sun rise is over, so we thought no need to hurry.

I think all the humps are 'marked' except one near an old fort. The trick on NH7 / Bellary Road is to watch out for speed limit signs that say 30. Two of these at close proximity and you can expect a hump there. Only the hump near the fort (there are two forts, the humps near one are not marked) is not marked. I realize all the markings are for speed limits and not humps as such.

Looks like you had fun, which is the most important thing. Nice report.

Interesting travelogue and amazing pictures. Brought back a flood of memories... Eagerly looking forward to the imposing stature of Mahishasura with the sword. As a child I was scared of this statue....LOL

It would have been nice if you had posted a picture of this small board...

Where is this Statue? I have not seen any in here. Are you talking of Chamundiswari Hill? If so, then you should wait. its on the pipe line.

I was eagerly driving to make it for the Sun rise, so did not stop often to take pics. Yes.

Ok, You can follow me on your bike. Seeing the hills and people drive there, I am really scared to "sit" with you on the bike and come.

Solo tree. [For some reason, I love to shoot trees which are alone like this.]

Btw, the monkeys here are so fearless. We had one window partially opened, and this smart guy jumped, got hold of the glass in one hand, and was hanging outside while I was driving slowly. Then we closed the door and went all the way.

Entrance to get in to Nandhi Hills
One day trip to Nandi Hills & BhogaNandishwara Temple...-img_3696.jpg

Reached the top and we could hear a loud music (noise!!!). We saw many guys and girls grouped together and listening (annoying others!!!) to music from their open Swift. We passed them and entered into the gate to go further up. Got the ticket for Rs.60 and went up. Its almost 1km from here.
The Main entrance

We went there with big expectations, since we kept hearing about Nandhi Hills from friends and others and never been even once there.
One day trip to Nandi Hills & BhogaNandishwara Temple...-img_3703.jpg

But to my surprise, we did not have much attractions. Usual children park like in my Apartment, restaurants etc. We do have some temples and we visited each of them.
A painting on the rock on the way to temple.

Then usual photo session and head back down from hills. Some ore pics in the next post.

Hey mahesh, I was in that impression that you had a chill time at Sakleshpur but looks like you chilled out @ Nandi.

Nice pics yaar. You indeed took lots of pics which I tend to ignore in nandi hills drives thinking that it is near our house and we will take more pics in the next visit.
