The Scorpio drank 532 litres of Diesel during the drive, averaging a cost of Rs 38.05 per litre, and a cost of Rs 3.28 per km.

I refuelled at every State, except Haryana (probably the cheapest fuel in India) and West Bengal.

Indicative rates for premium Diesel were (normal diesel was at least Rs 2.50 less):

Some statistics for the Safari: (I'm using the same format as Kumar here)

The Safari drank 485 litres of diesel, averaging a cost of Rs. 35.85 per litre and a cost of Rs. 2.81 per km.

Normal diesel cost

Kolhapur 36.05
Chembur 36.70
Ankleshwar 36.84
Chittorgarh 35.22
Badarpur 32.86
Gudhrauli 36.15
Dhanbad 33.57
Balasore 34.98
Ichapuram 35.82

I filled premium diesel at 2 places, Mangalagiri and Chembarambakkam.

Comparitively, normal diesel at Bangalore costs 39.07 and Shell diesel costs 39.95.
Ordinary diesel costs 34.98 at Madras.

The Safari returned a best of 14.33 kpl on the stretch between Chittorgarh and Badarpur. And a worst of 10.61 kpl between Bangalore and Kolhapur.

Please let us know the total kms travelled by both the vehicles that gives a clear figure.

As far as the above records show the Safari has given a better mileage and consumed less diesel.

Both the vehicles travelled the same distance ~6200 km, more or less.

The reason for posting such statistics is not to prove which gives a better mileage (which obviously consumes less diesel) but to indicate to others with similar interests how much to budget for should they undertake a drive like this.

Kya yaar - 6,171 for the Scorp and 6,187 for the Safari. All the figures are out there.

HVK has reportedly kept the engine on a boil all the time, hence it is logical that he will burn more fuel - 11.59 v/s 12.75.

Difference in cost of Rs.3k (or roughly 15%) between the two vehicles is mostly because HVK used ONLY premium while HRAG used normal on all occassions except two.

First let me congratulate Fantastic 5 for there glorious ride.

As I am glued to this thread from start, I can say that Hrag got better average due to his Eco Driving technique and driving style.

On the other hand legendry HVK is on a Fast Driving mode and high speed driver

More or less vehicles average is dependent on the Driving style.

What matters finally is the statistics. I request hrag, hvkumar and other members if they can provide a single Excel sheet with all statistics then it would be very helpful for others. Since, all data available at one place. Browsing thread with so many replies really not feasible for searching.

Happily, both Ramky and MJ did a great job of keeping tabs. When I am driving alone (or when the co-passengers are snoozing), I write it myself on the move. I keep a small notebook for this purpose.

Incidentally, we have drawn the entire route on my GPS also - Garmin. This will be converted into a Google earth file.

104.30 hours of driving in 144 hrs covering 6,176 kms at an average of 60 kmph and average coverage of 1029 kms per day..........

Only true legends can achieve this. Hats off to the team
