WagonR or Swift?(calling swift and wagonR owners)

Your heart is with swift, go for it, Simple . Both WagonR and Swift are good cars. Your main issue seems to be with safety. If safety is main priority, you have two options
- stretch you budget and go Swift Vxi ( ABS )
- Budget contraints , go for WagonR (ABS )

I always believe at the end of the day one has to make few compromises when buying a car. With either of them you have to make few compromises. Choose your compromises.

Not sure if anybody has mentioned it here before:

The Wagon R has a straight to ground design. It is (almost) flat on the sides. While Swift spreads out as it goes to the ground. So your judgement of space (or the feeling of available space) will be very close to what you see in the former, but a little skewed in the latter. You get used to it soon, as happens with any car that you buy, but it can perhaps be a point to consider in city traffic and parking scenarios. Perhaps.

My office is pretty close to my house..so i really dont need to use the car in week days(i like to use my bike in bangalore traffic)

But on a weekend, since there wont be much traffic density, i dont think Swift will cause any problems because of its size..

For Bangalore traffic, a bike does make sense, lest u end up sitting in jams for hours on end.

Any cars takes some time for us to get used to the dimensions, as well as its behaviour. Once that comfort sets in, a Swift, a Safari or even an Innova can be driven with ease.

Looks like u hve more or less decided on the Swift....

among the bikes, DIO/ACTIVA, makes more sense for bangalore's crowded streets.

I think you should go for the Swift Vxi. I am driving one for the last 1.5 yrs. My only conern is with slow moving bumper to bumper traffic, it becomes a lil difficult to drive a Swift due to a relatively poor low rpm power and the width of the car. Regarding the rattles, though they are coming up from time to time, workshop guys are able to fix 'em. Other than these noise issues here and there, I have not got any prob in the 4000+ kms i have done in my swift and it gives a good feeling driving in the highways.

FYI, I occasionally drive my dad's santro (which is infact comparable with WagonR) at Coimbatore and in Bangalore I use Siena 1.6

If you can afford the Swift VXI(abs) then its a good bet !!

Another T-Bhp member Hyper-Vtec recently replaced his Wagon-R with a Swift. PM him for some feedback on both.

souljah, i didnt replace, but added the swift :-). Though my mom uses it now in Kolkata.

I was (i should say still am) a great fan on WagonR, Very sensible, small things like a hook beneath the dash make storing things so simple. I drove my WagonR for 3 years in different cities like New Delhi, Pune and Bangalore. It delivers in all situations. Whether fast moving Delhi traffic or bumper to bumper traffic in Bangalore. Definitely WagonR' low speed grunt in more and helps in bumper to bumper traffic, but then once you are out of it, WagonR is no match. Swift is more comfortable, composed, feels more safe, brakes are much better than WagonR. Both ae from different category so they have their advantages and disadvantages.

A personal advice, if you can (budget), wait for 2-3 months and go on for VXi with ABS. Though ABS is useless in Bangalore city where you can hardly drive over 40 KMPH, in highways it would be a useful safety feature.

I used to get 12.5 KMPL in my WagonR in Bangalore city wityh 75% AC. Today i refilled the Swift, i got 12 KMPL with 40% AC. Point to be noted, i just did my first service today. I have learnt from knowledgable members here that after 2nd service normally the milreage increases. I would be goign to ooty and mysore thi week, i would be able to update on highway mileage next week. I religiously use Shell Petrol for all cars.

I was (still am) happy with WagonR, but am happier with Swift. :-)

Only the addition of ABS is not sufficient, one should also switch on to wider tyres , which the SWIFT desperately needs.

Swift is any day better than WagonR.

Swift VXI is value buy for sure even If compared with top end of WagonR.

Go for Swift VXI.

If I had to spend my money, why would I spend it on an ageing design and car and not on a car/model thats fairly new specially since I plan to keep the car for a few years?
WagonR and Santro are relatively quite dated and nearing the end of their model cycle.... And my two year old Swift (June 05) still looks new and peeps at gas station ask me kitne mahenay purani hai...
City driving, bike is probably the best, but its not safe. WagonR is good car, but by putting in 30k more you get much more car per money in form of Swift. No wonder it became such a huge success for Maruti. I cant imagine the same sensation caused by any other car than 800.

Not considering budget at all, i just wanted to know which car would be better for city driving ??

I am not sure about this. I have done 3500KMs on my Swift VXi with ABS. The City average is 14.5Kmpl (>50% AC) and highway it is around 21Kmpl(100% AC). After 2500Kms, I have seen around 0.5 kmpl increase in FE.

Where as my friend's Wagon-Rs ( Three of them, with different driving styles) claims around 13 kmpl/city and around 18kmpl on highway.

Hi,

I am very happy for my first long drive to tirumala in my new swiftvxi, [yesterday] compare to ZEN vxi[my old car], & my friend's wagon r [about 3 month's back been to tirumala] i feel more gut's to press peddle to reach 140-150kmph easily without any hesitation.

1300+ kms done: 13.7 in city>50%AC

Long drive 16.5-100% AC

Swift Vxi (ABS) will be my choice. Its light years ahead of Wagon R and every incremental Rupees on it is well worth it. You have plans to keep it in the long run, Swift being a newer car offers better resale value.
