Tata Nano Twist with power steering coming in January 2014

A report on Autocar India suggests that Tata Motors will equip the Nano with power-assisted steering. The Nano Twist, as the variant will be known is scheduled to be launched on 15 January, 2014.

The Twist will cost Rs. 15,000 more than the current top-of-the-line LX variant. The power steering unit is developed by German automotive component manufacturer, ZF Friedrichshafen AG. The addition of this unit will make driving and parking the Nano significantly easier.

With respect to sales, the Nano has failed to live up to Tata’s expectations. Tata hopes the addition of the power steering unit will broaden the car’s appeal and bump it up the sales charts.

The power-steering unit is the only new feature incorporated in the Nano. The car continues to be powered by the 624 cc, twin-cylinder engine.

In October, Tata launched a bi-fuel version of the Nano called the emax. More variants of the car are rumoured to be in the pipeline. These include diesel and battery powered versions and one with an opening rear hatch.
