Thanks for the pics, Rajith ! The slush looks quite challenging. Guess vehicles with MT tyres would have found it easier.

Re: Wayanad Annual Monsoon OTR - 2013!

Jeeps in the jungle slush - that is exactly where they belong. Pity I live so far away in Delhi that I cannot participate in these fantastic evetns like Palar challenge, drive in the western ghats or Coorg and places like these in the Monsoon.

I too would like to know which tyres did well in this degree of slush.

MT would have an advantage, NDMS has always lived through this for years.

But when the going gets this bad even Mud treads and I have seen even tractor tyres installed on MM550 fail, bogging down the vehicle absolutely bottoming the diffs.

Re: Wayanad Annual Monsoon OTR - 2013!

the fact that ONLY a HITACHI excavator can make it throgh the track is giving some idea about the difficulty of the event.

For those who could not make it, can you provide a complete report..

How long it took for completing the difficult track ?

how was the accomodation ?

How was the food ?

how was the cultural program ?

Hi Rajith,

I disagree. A chain drive Hitachi wouldn't even have climbed the first incline. Its a common misconception that JCB, Tractor etc.. can do all the stuff. In fact, you'd be surprised at what a Jeep can do, if you know how to use it properly.

To conquer this terrain, you need
  • Sheer Momentum
  • Very Very Light weight
  • Good aggressive MT tyres
  • And tyres should spin fast to make the slush fly off.
That is the reason why ATV's didn't even had to be winched, except for one 'aathi kandam' or quick-sand-like area.

Also, did you see how beautifully Baleno powered Gypsys were climbing up without winching? (Well, on most inclines.. )

Also, why didn't you stay for the second days competition event?. There were more than 20,000 spectators, and most of the participants had huge fun, it seems..

Hi Dhanush,

Your having a wonderfull and a warm personality and because of you only we guys came in.

Thanks for helping us in late reg and accompanying us during late night accommodation set up.

In this thread let us not prefer to discuss what a jeep can do or how to use it properly. Its not essential that your logic of driving should match to mine and lets not make it too complicated, its a fun theme and lets leave it simple.
