Gypsy? I saw a Mercedes emblem stuck in the front.

Ramky, I am not sure this is off-roading. I can do this terrain in my Santro, it is really flat and has hard sand.

No, samurai.
That merc emblem was on a mahindra jeep.
And I can vouch that this terrain is soft although flat. A santro can definitely drive through until it gets stuck.
PS: Im very sorry for bringing car talk to this 4x4 section. I didnt start it,arka.

Hai,

Was out of town and could'd respond quickly.

Correct, its just a Merc tin badge on a jeep.

I also thought my Scorp could do it easily or any other can do it easily initially, the first 3 kms are easy. The video captured only about 1 mt of the journey, youtube could'd take more than 100 mb. After the first 3-4 KMS there's a section of water before the Dahuskodi Station and many sections of seaweed and sinking sand where only a 4wd can do. We were going sideways in many sections and it was a little scary!!!

I also saw lots of another variety of Mahendra Van which transports people and goods, also 4 wheel.

If you ask those who have done this trip they'd tell you what kind of terrain this is and what kind vehicles ply here.

I see you're having great fun with your GV. I am greatly tempted, seriously evaluating importing an old LRover from Kenya thro friends there; maintrenance and spapres scare me.

Normal M&m Jeep - 4wd

Juns a run-on-the-mill 4wd jeep. But this driver used the gears to exceptional use, said on an average he does 2 trips a day at about Rs.750/- per trip. He drove on the seaside, hard sand where he had to avoid sand dunes, it would have been impossible for even this jeep to cross it.

I know, on a gypsy this would be great fun.

Off-Road Videos

European Truck Trials

The videos mostly feature Ex-army Tatra T813/T815 8x8/6x6 trucks, with modifications such as roll cages, racing seats and harnesses etc. They are mechanically pretty much stock. The 8x8 vehicle have six differentials, all lockable, and all vehicles have a central tyre pressure control system. They are shod with 15-21 off road tyres. Tatra is the only manufacturer to have a wide range of military and civilian trucks with independent suspension. Most of these vehicles are powered by air cooled turbo charged V-8s. The older T813s have NA V-12s. They have a 10 speed gearbox with a 2 speed transfer case.
You may also see some Praga V3S, Ural-375 and Unimog trucks in these videos.
Most military Tatras can climb 100% gradients all full load!

< Can find links to parts 2-5 here.

< Links to parts 2-4 on the page.

(India has recently acquired 12x12 vechiles of this series for the land based BrahMos system)
Tatra T815 4x4 Dakar Rally testing < official race team site

Pinzgauer videos

The pinzgauer is a high mobility vehice of Austrian origin. Its made in 4x4 and 6x6 models. Its basically a baby Tatra with portal hubs.

I'll add Unimog video links later. Enjoy.

Danuskodi is part of Gulf of Manner, a huge bay and waves hit strongly only on the Indian Ocean side, As per the Wikipedia:

"The Gulf of Mannar is a large shallow bay that is an arm of the Laccadive Sea in the Indian Ocean. It lies between the southeasternern tip of India and the west coast of Sri Lanka with widths between 160 and 200 (100 to 125 mi). A chain of low islands and reefs known as Rama's Bridge, also called Adam's Bridge, separates the Gulf of Mannar from the Palk Strait, which lies to the north between India and Sri Lanka. The gulf receives the Tambaraparani River from the coast of India and the Aruvi Aru from the coast of Sri Lanka."

I think I finally understand your avatar. The wall climbing stunt had me stumped. This vehicle can give Gurkha a serious complex.

The pinz is nothing short of a legend. Its in a class of its own, way above ordinary 4x4s. BTW, my avatar is Dakar 2007 Tatra T815. Love those trucks.
