The previous sketch was a fast one only to show a rough idea without concentrating on the lines & proportions. Just imagine how the looks will improve with the spare wheel, without which it looks Bland....Now pls check whether this picture makes any difference.

Re: Shortened Armada Grand

No offense , But the rear looks like ambulance now!!! why not consider a half body soft top or same thing like the Wrangler above ?

This build deserves a better rear design man !!!

sorry, could not stop writing this.

Re: Shortened Armada Grand

@Sumeshm,

Interesting build so far. Looking forward to the end result.

Dont get bogged down by the anti-straight back gang . Is that a new word?
I kind of like it. Dunno if you guys have checked out the 2011 Jeep Wrangler. It has a straight back!!

Cheers.

Pics from google.

Hey Sumesh, Nice to see you going with your creative freedom.

Is the rear pillar going to be body color or black. I think all matt black for B and C pillar and roof would look awesome with this body line.

@Sumesh, please do not design like the Mahindra and TATA designers.
Please think like a car lover and design.

Straight lines are good. Use them. Look at Wranglers, Range Rovers, Endeavours.

Re: Shortened Armada Grand

Whats the update. The rear design should be sensible as a lot depends on it. One ugly thing in a Xylo is its rear. I also feel that straight lines at the back makes it look boxy and bland but if a slight curve is given it goes with the flow of the contours. Also keeping the spare tyre on the back gate is so passe. Can we not have any possibility of re positioning it?

Re: Shortened Armada Grand

I was doing my usual Sunday afternoon browsing of Jeep threads, when I noticed this very interesting thread again after a long time. I have not come across any other thread which documents the shortening of an LWB Jeep with a full metal body. Though it started off as a one of a kind thread with a promising result, from Page 3 onwards it seemed like it could end up in the Weird&Wacky thread. Then, the whole project went silent!

My intention is not to reopen the thread, but does anyone know what happened to this project?

Dear Nikhil, would you know what happened to this project? How about information on the other projects you have mentioned in your post?

If there is no news whatsoever, the Moderators can close this thread for obsolescence.

You seem to be very upset about the state of this thread, I will give you an update lest if affects your general well being.

The project is progressing at a pace that suits it's owner. The scope of the project is much more than just shortening an Armada. It is going to have a coil over spring suspension with the front arms pushed forward so close to 90 degree approach angle can be obtained.

Manzoor is not very active on Team-Bhp, so maybe the person who started this thread can update current status or I can add some pictures after my next trip to Trichur where Manzoor has his workshop.

Nopes, not upset or affected .
But you have to agree that this project was very interesting. A SWB full metal bodied offroader is the fantasy of many enthusiasts, especially the ones who want to mix everyday practicality with weekend fun. [Why do you think so many groan about the absence of a factory supplied hard-top for the Mahindra Thar?]

This particular project, however, seems to have reached a different but interesting conclusion. I noticed this same vehicle - KL 08 P 8037 - in the Wayanda OTR July 2012 thread.

Here is how it looks now. Isn't it the same vehicle?

Yes Sir, its the same vehicle. And it performed brilliantly. The low weight and high GC, with bigger dia tyres helped it, IMO.
