Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

Tried to follow up on gypsy over the weekend. So got some updates - corporate office says gypsy production has started again recently (in December only) further stating that there were some issues with BSIV norms which maruti was trying to solve. When I asked what exactly has changed - "not sure, nothing major though otherwise maruti would have done a press release".

Asked a dealer in delhi and got similar reply, though when I forced on that I want to know the exact changes otherwise I am not booking it I was told to wait till 1-2days and they will find out.

Will update once I hear something.

Oh! totally forgot!

Gypsy website is down! Not sure what it means but I would lean towards something is changing or they are discounting gypsy. (Or the site is getting updated for marketing reasons)

Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

The site is now up. There are a lot of spelling mistakes, so I think they will rectify them again.

3 Speed Wiper seems to be something new. Generally its only 2 speed.

Disclaimer - less Ignition and Multi Function Levels under Electrical Equipment, god knows what they are trying to say.

Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

The rumor mills can take a break now. The escapade is revealed, no major changes as far as I am concerned, no diesel mill too. It's the same old 1.3L block that does the duty.

Now Maruti Gypsy has a brand new website; however nothing has changed in its specs. Check it out!

Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

Maruti Gypsy gets its largest order - 4100 numbers!

Quote:
The previous order from the Army was for around 1,000 vehicles in 2012. The current order was placed three months ago, and Maruti has already delivered half the number to the Army, while the remaining would be delivered in around four months.
Quote:
The Gypsy is customised for the Army with special accessories The cars have convoy lights, which emits a green ray that the soldiers follow at the time of black-out in a war situation. Among other things, the cars are also provided with hooks in the rear for towing military equipment such as large guns and inside for mounting weapons.

Long Live the King, Gypsy King!

Good news for all of us who would like to lay down their hands on ex-army Gypsy vehicles further down the years to come.

Thanks to the Indian Army, the supply of ex army vehicles will continue for few more years.

On the other hand, this order shows that the trials being conducted by IA for new generation vehicle to replace Gypsy/MM550 are not yet complete.

Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

I'd enquired about bookings for a brand new Gypsy last month via the website. The local dealer called and quoted a month's waiting period (after a fair amount of wait which I assume was required for him to check the status with Delhi HQ). No discounts or freebies possible since Gypsy is a "shaukeen admi's vehicle".

I had taken this intimation with a pinch of salt. Considering all these news items, it does seem to be true.

I was under the impression the 1.3 Petrol engine was laid for good and using only K series engine, but not so for Gypsy.

below details from their website.
Petrol
Type G13BB MPFI 16 Valve Gasoline
Number of cylinders 4
Displacement 1298 cc
Maximum power 80 bhp @6000 rpm

I think they mean to say distributorless ignition and multi function levers. Please do correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

Rumours are doing rounds that the YBA / Ertiga / Ciaz are likely to be powered by a new Fiat-sourced 1.6 Litre JTD engine Downsized to 1.5 Litres & Developing close to 100 bhp or an In House Developed 1.5 Litre Turbo Diesel Mill; hence could we have the Gypsy Powered by 1.5 Litre Diesel Engine in the Near Future ?

Considering Rumours of Thar being powered by the Quanto's 1.5 Litre Diesel Engine also doing Rounds a Diesel Gypsy with 1.5 Litre Diesel Mill, Redesigned Front & Rear Bumpers to Shave Off the Extra 10 MM from the Current 4010 MM Length making it eligible for Excise Benefit would definitely make it a Roaring Success.

1.5 l engine will kill the purpose. Maybe it will be good for people like me who want to just show off () or want a ride that is good in terms of height and road presence. But 1.5 l engine wont suit the Thar. Underpowered at best it would be.

ONE QUESTION:
if M&M launches a quanto engined Thar, Will our Thars with 2.5 l engine fetch more value in case someone wants to sell?
