Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

Gypsy in news again - Chennai Police to Get 135 Maruti Gypsies !

Quote:
The vehicles would be delivered in a month and they would be used after the installing public announcement systems, GPS tracking devices and other equipment.

Chennai police said the decision to get Gypsies was made to reach narrow streets faster. "The Innova and Bolero used now are at times inconvenient to access narrow lanes of Triplicane, Mylapore or Zam Bazaar," said a senior officer of Greater Chennai police.

The Maruti Gypsy is relatively small and rugged. So we thought it will suit better as patrolling vehicles

Re: Rumour: Updated Maruti Gypsy coming?

The overall length of the GYPSY is 4010mm.

The EECO engine, essentially downsized G13BB, is equivalent to 1.2L (1197cc). Block is same. Stroke is shortened and its sleeved down.
The G13BB is what powers the Gypsy now. The 1.2L EECO engine even in detuned form will have enough grunt for the Gypsy (Remember original narrow track MG410's came with a 45Ps,970cc, four-pot)

Also, India's National Diesel Engine, 1.3 SDE from Fiat is available in a North-South installation in the Chevy Enjoy.

Adding up all these: what is preventing Maruti from quietly slipping in a 1.2L, 4x4 gasoline. (Petrol / Diesel prices are now not much different)
And a 1.3 MJD for future?

Gypsy's ladder frame should not prove too difficult to adapt to the 1.3MJD.

Bolero beater anyone?

Well Maruti? T-Bhp is doing your product planning !

Extra torque of the diesel may be a problem, as the power train may not be able to take it. There have been a lot of instances where the front axles break. That may be the reason that Suzuki has never mated a diesel with Gypsy. So use more torque the whole front train has to be redesigned. The rear train may be tougher.
