MM550: Replaced XD3P with MDI turbo-charged engine MM550- Replace XD3P with MDI TC engine.
Hello All,
I decided to transplant the engine of my MM550. Going for a 2012 DI engine, which will replace the ailing XD3P. I had painstakingly overhauled the Xd3p engine twice only for it to have overheating issues.
It looked like the best option available for my kind of usage for the jeep.
Managed to find a nice used engine from a 2012 Mahindra Pickup in Mettupalayam, at the foothills of the Nilgiris.
A known mechanic (Abdul Rahman aka Babu Jeep) was entrusted to do this job in his garage in Mettupalayam.
Update on 18th August 2018A 2012 DI TC engine with Starter motor, alternator, Bell housing and Silencer has been procured. Old engine is out of the Jeep chassis.
Update on 23rd August... Bell housing has been installed
Update on 25th August... The DI engine is mounted. Pending work is to fit the Exhaust and the complete the engine bay wiring.
UPDATE on 1st Sep
Radiator and PS connected.
Next is fixing the exhaust with the catcon and then sorting out the wiring in the engine bay.
Test driven by the Babu JeEp and all seems to be okay.
UPDATE on 4th September--> The steering fluid reservoir is fixed.
Currently the old cable based clutch operation is retained. Will update to a hydraulic operating one in near future.
UPDATE on 7th September. The exhaust is connected and wiring in the engine bay is sorted out. The jeep is ready for me to take delivery.
The engine is bit noisier... Though i could reach speeds of 80-90 KMPH. the sounds make us to reduce the speed. Not sure if it is advisable to do such speeds.
Update on 11th September: I’ve been driving the jeep for 3 days now.
Initial impression: The DI engine feels/ has more torque when mated to a KMT 90 GB. Could climb a couple of steep ramps without any accelerator input. |
