Or is it that Toyota dismissed the large discount because they are in a process of selling 100s of Hilux to the Army?
This is a great way for Toyota to offload inventory without having to endure the ignominy of the “heavily discounted” label on Hilux.
The army will never say what it cost them, and Toyota, which anyway refused to officially accept the reality of the discounts, gets to save face.

Let’s be honest, who will buy the truck at non-discounted rates once they know how much lower it was going for? As is hardly anyone was buying it even before the discounts came into play. It IS very expensive at the official sticker.

Whoever is in charge of getting this done at Toyota has done such a fantastic job of extracting the company out of a rock-and-a-hard-place situation.

I was really looking forward to the discounts returning so I could try and get my hands on this truck, but it looks like that’s not happening now.

But then now I won’t have to worry about parking issues. (Why are these grapes looking SO sour?)

Re: Indian Army adds Toyota Hilux to its fleet

Slightly off topic, and not entirely related to the Hilux, but to BS6.2 diesel engines and the Indian Army

Assuming the Diesel engine is the one that will be delivered, wont the BS6.2 engine and associated DPF impact the 'reliability' of such vehicles in army use cases.

Long high speed drives may not always be possible, and we have plenty of instances of the Fortuner DPF getting clogged in case of frequent short distance usage. High altitudes have also proven to be a challenge in many cases

Unlike the Civilians, maybe the Army has a choice to delete the DPF system and that sure makes it a reliable one.

Re: Indian Army adds Toyota Hilux to its fleet

Punjab police looks to be a department belonging to a very 'wealthy' state. About a decade back they added 150 Getaways from Mahindra. Some 4-5 years later, they were replaced with Ertigas. And now the lordships have got themselves Isuzu V-Cross. Well done. Whatever their governance model is, its certainly working.

I live just a stone throws away from a PP 'chownki', will shortly share what became of the Getaways & Ertigas at the hands of a typical unit.

Toyota delivers special-purpose Hilux to the Indian army.

TKM introduced two modifications to the Toyota Hilux, known as the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV)

Modifications were carried out with the assistance of authorised external vendors.
Primarily for the Indian Army
Remains unchanged mechanically
In addition to these customised versions, the standard Hilux, designed for general customers' personal and business use, was also showcased at the symposium held from September 11th to 13th at IIT Jammu. Moreover, in July 2023, TKM delivered a fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Indian Army for the first time.

The RIV is equipped for firefighting and rescue missions during emergencies.

Following the market survey, TKM introduced two distinct modifications to the Toyota Hilux, known as the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV). These adaptations were designed to meet the unique demands of the army and other specialised consumers. Considering the operational and logistical challenges faced by the Indian Army due to the diverse terrain and climatic conditions in the region, customization and dedicated solutions were imperative. The FDV was engineered to provide essential vehicle servicing in remote areas, strengthening army operations at defence sites. Meanwhile, the RIV is equipped for firefighting and rescue missions during emergencies.
