Due north into the mountains during monsoon. Mountains totally socked in this day, most days, until September. Same river about 6 km south undercutting and destroying about 300 meters of houses and shops just south of Dharamsala. My dark red 2013 Thar still running great at 140,000 km. Good to have 4X4 with all the wet, mud and sludge around during monsoon.

"Oh yeah, Rahoon, just look at my owner's manual. My truck can haul twice the weight of your power shovel. Piece of cake, no problems!"

This North American Jeep has a Chevy 572 cubic inch V-8 which puts out over 700 horsepower. He probably has a heavy duty tranny, axles, differentials, clutch...and who knows what else. The freaking thing just has a musical engine sound. Of course, engine sound is the most important part of a vehicle, right? This thing will get you down to the daily needs store for a loaf of bread and a 5 liter Coke, in short order. This was not built for off-road competition. This is just for around town.

I imagine this vehicle may be a real load to steer. Yeah, you can fit a "big block" V-8 under the bonnet. But, it weighs a whole lot and makes the vehicle very tippy. I take solace in that my 120++ hp Thar gets a much better fuel average than this locomotive. If you have something bigger than phone speakers, take a listen.

Monsoon finally totally fizzled out here at the front range, Himachal. So, I am back to trekking up the goat paths and hydroelectric roads just to enjoy. This is "MoonPeak" just east of Dharamsala. It's 15,222 feet. Easily high enough to make some of its own weather, note the cloud plume blowing off it. And, my dirty ole Thar. It's just nice being up there in a capable vehicle. Pretty all over the place up there.

Machines, even war machines, can be works of art. Thar. British Spitfire (WWII).

Thar gets better fuel average.

This time of year the weather at the Front Range can be unpredictable. Here the "Big Boy" up this valley has his head in the clouds. Snow, cold, raw...but beautiful near Dharamsala right now.

I don't know whether my new Thar, the great-grand-child of the original Jeep, will be welcomed here on this thread, but it ought to be, since it is the bearer of the same DNA, a brother from another mother, so I shall knock on the door with a pic or six or twelve, in the eternal spirit of the Jeep.

Owning a 4X4 is a life style choice I made many years back. Now I don't feel right driving a vehicle that is not a 4X4. This is the backside of my house at Dharamsala H.P.. The front range starts 2km away. I often go up there, up village roads, goat paths, hydroelectric maintenance roads, whatever I can find. The views are spectacular, the air is cleaner and full of oxygen from millions of pine trees, there' a grand variety of flora and fauna to observe.

I consider it "bad roading" as opposed to "off roading". You can do most of it in a 4X2 but then there are those rough tracks prone to slides, steep narrow roads that wash out, snow, mud...it's good to have a capable 4X4 to get you up and down these grand mountains.

It's been a while since I've posted here. Here's a pic of my Jeep.
