Vijay sir,

I agree for many of you'll its worth it. Different strokes (budgets) for different folks.

Here is Tarkesh's thread. This page has the last update with pic. I have to say of all the army 550 threads, he is the most excited of the lot. Speak to him on the phone and its the same vibe you get.

I asked the Photoshop boys to do some virtual painting and this is what bad boy did.

Get one Yaar!!!!

Dan,

Have you finalized or not? Get one yaar, its now enough to search for elusive jeep.

My say" Get a good one from Mayapuri " - " Restore it " - "Feel the satisfaction"

I am really feeling the same way.

Here is what I found so far.

Ironwolf,
Here is what I have been able to unearth. A couple of 540s, but without 4WD.

MM540 with Di engine - closer to 1.7L
MM540 with Peugeot engine - about 1.1L

CJ340 with 4WD, in excellent condition - 2.25L

Tata Safari 4WD - 1.5 to 1.7L

Hey Tarkesh, I felt that way about it sometime back. (Sounds very Mills&Boonish)

Its Finalized that its not a Maypuri Jeep for now. Maybe I will go the Mayapuri way when I have the time and the resources for it. Maybe I will do it when the army NGCS start coming to the auctions in about
6 years?

Even the latest CJ340 will be older than the oldest Safari. Still CJ340 holds better value than Safari.

Actually, the CJ340 has been appreciating in value.
It all started when all of a sudden, the internet generation wanted it. I think you started the trend, Sharat.

Cj 340 is not the only case. I have seen this trend with MM540 and to a great extent with MM550's as well. The more rare they become the more pricier.

p.s- I think safari 4wd at about 1.75-2.00 will make a good sense even with enemic engine. All you must have is a working a/c and power steering. At that price i wouldnt mind it thrashing like a jeep.

Oh no, you are not pinning it on me. It was Jeep Thrills that started the urban jeeping culture, they should get all the blame. I am just one of the victims, not the perpetrator.

You have so much patience man!!! But what do you mean by time and resource because anyways if you are buying any other 540/550 then also you will have to have time and resource.

A 4x4 Safari for that price? I am sure it would be a big fat white elephant. Also it has a much greater change of becoming a see saw during a OTR. A SWB CJ340 would also have better articulation.

I agree completely. All the old school Jeeps are now getting pricier by the day. :(

`92 MM540 Arrived!

Finally after a long search for that elusive MM5x0 and then a long long wait to get possession ~ I have finally got possession of a `92 MM540.

After a long painful waiting period, I don't dream anymore about the jeep's finish, color, color combos or what fittings to put on the jeep.
I now only dream of taking it to places, which God has created and man hasn't wrecked.

Pics coming shortly.
