Congrats man.

Reminds me of the first 4x4 I bought with my own income.

1988 Isuzu Trooper 4x4 (SOLD) - 4x4addict's Photo Gallery - Team-BHP

I had a huge problem sourcing spares in USA. Hopefully it is not an issue in India.

Forgive my ignorance are these rims similar to the Chevy Tavera?. Nice buy and it must be fun travelling in the Trooper. Congratulations.

Driving experience.

I have already covered 800 Kms in last 8 days of city driving.Have driven to the airport only once.

Performance-The first thing you notice is the immense power this vehicle generates. You can feel that power once you shift from first to second., its roars.
Note-The engine has already propelled this vehicle close to 1.3 lakhs kms.

Ride Quality-I would rate this 9/10 for a 20 year old vehicle.

Steering-This vehicle is so easy to maneuver considering the kerb weight which is close to 3000 kgs .Courtesy, the power steering.

Braking-10/10. It behaves like an obedient little dog when it comes to braking. You could see the bonnet almost touching the road when you break suddenly and the vehicle does not skid.

Controls-The controls are very simple.

Interiors- Spacious, very spacious.Lots of headroom. Doesn't matter how tall you are, you will have plenty of room up top.

Congratulations on your purchase. The Trooper does look in excellent condition. Just my 2 cents on the below remark. Roads in Canada would be 10 times better than you see in India. So not a fair comparison to compare the life of vehicle that way. However, if your friend's vehicle was used in similar conditions as those that exist in India, then its a valid point.

The engine looks like its NA. If that is so, then the engine is the 4JB1, which is about 80 bhp. Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Isuzu Trooper 4x4 Comes Home

It has been a long time since i updated this thread, thought of doing so as i have sometime on my hands.

The more i drive, the more i fall in love with this Vehicle.I have done numerous road trips in last 4 odd years.I will sum-up few of them below which cross my mind.

1-B'lore-Hyd-B'lore (4 Trips)
2-B'lore-Ooty-B'lore (3 Trips)
3-B'lore-Wayanad-B'lore ( 3 Trips)
4-B'lore-Mysore-B'lore (more than 25 for sure)
5-B'lore-Coorg-B'lore (2 Trips)
6-Hyderabad-Raichur-Hyderabad (3 Trips)
7-Numerous Airport Runs during my stay in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
8-Numerous runs to Dhabas/Nandi Hills/Chamundi Hills.

The only cost i incurred is regular oil change other than replacing the battery/Break pads and water Pump once.Got the radiator cleaned couple of times.

The fun of driving this monster cannot be explained in words, this vehicle can do constant 120 speeds all day and the temperate meter will not cross even the half way mark.Have never done serious off-roading, but have driven around coffee/Tea estates in Coorg and Ooty. This vehicle does this with ease, seldom i had to engage 4WD on these estate drives.

Waseem.

The Tavera is basically an Isuzu Panther.

Re: Isuzu Trooper 4x4 Comes Home

Later models of Isuzu Trooper were also rounded and curved.

It came with a 3000 cc V6 Petrol engine in the Middle East markets and was favoured by some expats, from Europe or Australia / NZ.

Off road in the desert it could not match a Prado, Landcruiser or Nissan Patrol obviously but it was a great family car with a couple of child seats and eager heads popping out from inside all windows at a shopping mall!

Nice trooper, still a lot of years left, enjoy. I've had my similar year pajero for almost a decade now. Can't ever get used to a sedan again!
