Car washing service at home | shramika.in

Hi All,

I availed the mobile car wash service a few days ago and am sharing my experiences here. I saw them near my home in Bengaluru, a month back and noted their contact details. I used the DriveU car wash last time where we needed to provide water and power. This mobile car wash service is different as they bring their own water and power source.

I called them a day before and scheduled a car wash at 5.30 PM the next day.

On the scheduled day, they reached on time and came in an electric auto rickshaw with a small water tank, an inverter, a water pressure motor, a vacuum cleaner and other cleaning tools.

I asked them only for an external pressure wash. The two guys started their work. The pressure was adequate. They did a clean job and completed the wash in 30 minutes. I paid them 450 Rs for the wash.

It was a very convenient service and was helpful. During the wash, a few of my neighbours took their contact details. I will recommend them with no hesitation if the car does not need strong water pressure.

Just had a chat with them - they operate in specific areas of South Bangalore only; primarily Jayanagar and JP Nagar. They weren’t confident enough to attempt Central Bangalore (my society) due to the operational constraints of their electric vehicle battery.

Then I guess North Bangalore is out of the picture for them. Hope they prove us wrong.

From a practical standpoint, does foam/pressure wash on public roads pose any issue (or grounds for complaints from others)? I wonder if this can work in basement parking.

Re: Car washing service at home | shramika.in

In the current scenario where most urbanites want things / services to be delivered at their door step and would want his / her car to be 'just' clean, this is very convenient. It is also better than the usual car cleaning wala who will clean the car everyday in just half a bucket of water and a damp (dirty) cloth. However, for those who are passionate about maintaining their car and would like to keep swirl marks, etc to a minimum, this is clearly not a good solution. Even in some good car detailing shops, after a proper wash, the guy who wipes your car dry will wipe dry areas that typically still has sand particles and muck and will use the same cloth to wipe other painted areas resulting in scratches and swirl marks. I have seen this in every single place - the owner of the detailing studio will tell you all the right things, but, the execution is poor. The concept of rinsing the cloth from time to time, changing the water, using a different cloth, bucket, etc is either non-existent or followed inconsistently.

If they execute it properly, this shouldn't be an issue nowadays.
Pre cleanser and foam along with pressure rinse down will take away most of the heavy particles even before someone touches the vehicle. Further foam and mitten wash with rinse down will ensure that there won't be any hard particles left while drying off.
So if these are done properly, it's not much of a risk unlike earlier times.

Hi,
You might want to try the Hoora app. Here's the link: https://hoora.in/. Their services are available in Bangalore, Nagpur, Mumbai, and Pune. I haven't personally tried them yet, but they were featured on Shark Tank as well.

Yes, they offer the following services:
  1. Exterior foam washing
  2. Interior vacuuming
  3. Interior detailing (upholstery cleaning)
  4. Paint correction (rubbing polishing)
  5. Clay & waxing

Also, as @ninjatalli mentioned earlier, they are currently providing services in Jayanagar, JP Nagar, and Basavanagudi in South Bengaluru.

They certainly did an excellent job. Car looks straight out of showroom!

That said, isn't 450 a bit too high? I have two roadside car wash garages which charge a measly 150 bucks and do an excellent job with pressure wash. Both these are just about 500 metres from my locality.

I understand in a city like Bangalore, such roadside services could be in plenty!

I have not come across any roadside pressure wash charging 150 Rs near my home (South Bengaluru). It is always in the range of 400 to 600 Rs.

Re: Car washing service at home | shramika.in

Isn't this service on public road an inconvenience to others? I can understand this being done in a private property or even in apartment parking but washing the car with foam and spraying water on public road is something I find contradicting to the practices endorsed by this forum.

What if people start washing laundry or utensils on the road in front of house? I know it's an extreme example but then who draws the line? Public road is a public road.

Honestly, not a fan of this kind of service - the guys may be doing a great job but this is another addition to plethora of things we as a country do not care about when it comes to public inconvenience.

We have a local detailing garage opened up a small outlet in our apartment basement(only for residents). They have a shop around a kilometer away from our society. Most of the services are available in the basement unit itself. It's been a big hit among the residents and quite convenient.

Re: Car washing service at home | shramika.in

Anybody who’s in the mobile detail/wash business can help shed light on the numbers as these prices don’t add up.

Hoora is charging 250-300 and claims to do an in and out cleaning taking 1hr per car. Even if we ignore taxes, the labour alone would be 350-400 per car (avg salary of 25k x2 workers, divided by 26 working days in a month, taking 5 cars per day optimistically in an 8 hour workday).

Add in bike fuel, franchise partner cut, marketing expenses, their own margins, detailing products, etc. and it makes zero sense.

Only likely explanation is they’re following the Uber model, operating well below cost and burning through angel investor money to capture market share.
