Friends, Some bad and sad news for Morris car fans that is going unnoticed as a thread in another section of this website. So decided to post an extract here for viewing:
This lovely house was once the residence of Sir William Richard Morris and his late wife (later Lord Nuffield) from 1933-1963, the year he passed away.He was the founder owner of Morris Motors UK.The Nuffield College (Medical) which is housed here and was set up by Lord Nuffield. It was recently featured in England's 1000 best houses. The house has lots of memorabilia of the furnitures, tapestry and other items used by its owner. He was a benefactor to the city of Oxford to the field of medicine and education, Oxford University and also to motoring.
This house is visited by Morris car fans regularly. It has been decided to sell it during end of September 2008. The Morris car clubs are up in arms and are collecting funds to buy out the property so that motoring history is not vanquished.
I came to know about it from the Quarterly journal "Quality First" of the Morris Cowley, Oxford and Issis Owners Club, Oxford, UK, that reached me by mail just today. The MCOC is desperately campaigning to prevent its sale for commercial use. Soon I logged in to the "Save Nuffield Place" website . Its sad that history should get obliterated and give way to commerce. Even our very own Hindustan Motors owes its origin to Morris Motors.
A mail that I had received from the Save Nuffield Place Committee in response to my concern is reproduced here:-
Dear Dr. Chatterjee

Many thanks for your kind email and your concern about Nuffield Place. We do have hope that we will be able to preserve it. I will keep you informed of what happens.

I am glad to hear that you are a Morris car enthusiast. Do you know if there are any Morris car enthusiasts or owners clubs in India?
Kind regards

Dear Anjan
You are on my list of people to contact when there is news of the future of Nuffield Place . I am thrilled to be able to tell you that the house has now been given to the National Trust by Nuffield College and regular openings are likely to begin next year. The National Trust has a campaign to raise money to run the open days.Thank you very much for your past interest in us and I hope you will be able to visit in the future.

It was a disturbing phase for Morris fans when it was revealed that the house was up for sale in September 2008.

I'll hoping to post the entire issue once I sort out my new scanner.
Am making some progress thankfully and will continue posting.
Thanks for your patience!

This picture shows the wall being built and the two bikes seen there are evidently of BMW make.

In a recent forest fire in Texas state of the US, on 6th September 2011, 1000 plus homes were destroyed.Sadly to add to the loss, 175 old cars from the John Chapman collection were also burnt and destroyed. And a 1966 Pontiac GTO, a 1957 Chevrolet and a 1947 Studebaker pick-up truck got melted and the owner showed viewers the melted remains. John Chapman aged 70, also lost a dozen Chevrolet Corvettes and a Shelby Cobra.

There are certainly Nash's in India. Nash Metropolitan, 3 known, one in Mumbai, one in Bangalore and one.............. The upcoming Museum in Delhi will have a 1947 or so model. One junk had been offered from Kolkatta. Not sure how many came to India, but survival rate is low. There are also Vintage Nash's in India, though quite rare.
Eventually Nash ended up with American Motors Corporation, others who also ended up there were Kaiser-Fraser, Willys, Overland, Graham-Paige, Hudson and Rambler (maybe a few more, Jeep was a Willys product). And all these cars are relatively rare in India. American Motors itself landed up with Chrysler.

Cheers harit

Wow.. thanks Harit ! I love the lines of the Metropolitan - never got to see the Mumbai one in any rally, though. Would love to see it !!

Mexico City: Mexico's capital is ready to stomp out its iconic Volkswagen "Bug" taxis.
Officials said on Friday that the last of the old-style VW Beetles will have their cab licenses expire by the end of the year, marking the end of an adventurous if uncomfortable part of Mexico City life.
The rounded, two-door sedan nicknamed the Bug - in Mexico, it's a "Vocho" - has long been an informal symbol of this sprawling city, a tough, rattling reflection of its gritty urbanity and chaotic streets.
At its height in 2006, the little VWs accounted for almost half of all taxis in Mexico City, with about 50,000 cruising the streets. Today, there are only about 3,500 of the privately owned and operated Bugs among 130,000 taxis.
