Maybe you are right. I saw a 3 year old Honda Accord at First Choice Motors going for 10.75 lacs, with 18k on the odo! It was a steal IMHO however I didnt have the dough for that!

I came across a internal memo of GM stating that they welcome tenders for company used car. Most of the cars are used for just 100Kms(Yes 100Kms) and are made in jan-08 to may-08. Insiders tell that in past most of the cars had gone in range of 3 to 5lacs. (here i am talking of OPTRA MAGNUM DIESEL). Inspection of car is allowed and sell is on AS IS WHER IS basis. Can any body throw some light on this???

Factory seconds. Not bad if there isn't any significant / structural damage to the car. Related discussion here

Just a simple calculation I did.

I bought my 2004 Wagon R Vxi with 14500 kms for 3.23 lakhs in Sept 06 from Truevalue.
At that time a new Wagon R Vxi was 4.3 Lakhs on road.
I have driven 22k since.

Today as per carwale.com (Good condition)

06 Wagon R with 22,000 kms -> 2,88,000
04 Wagon R with 37,000 kms -> 2,37,000

So my car has lost 86,000 in depreciation.
If I had bought a new car it would have lost 1,42,000.

Bought used cars so far, diff to search and get but yes the value exists
Best deal on used car- get a less used, same year despo seller- if at all there exists one now with so much info around used cars!!!!
Getting a new one now- want to keep it for 3-4 years and never felt the feeling of getting a new one home...( however was still searching a less used - as typical of me, missed one just today:Frustrati...!!!):D

I got a car in second hand.It was only 14k kms run/Looked very good.Even the drive was nice.I too was happy buying a shining 14K kms car in a cheaper prize.After finishing all the deal.When I came to know thouroughly about the Wagon R I found I did not do a good deal.Later on I came to know it was an accidednt vehicle and was well repaired in a body shop and sold to me.Even the eyes of the Mechanic whom I took also went blind.So beware of second Hands.

I was planing to buy a new car, a GM "beat", yes I was planning..
Till yesterday when 1 friend of mine called up and told me that he is selling off his 2001 Manual 2.3 Honda Accord, now the dilemma is, I really liked that car since last 7-8 months, may be because of some cosmetic upgrades like 19" Rims on Goodyear eagle low profile tires, a video cd player attached to the double din hi fidelity music system, hi end leather seat covers, HID's and the best thing it gives an fe of 11km/pl.

Now the dilemma starts, yesterday I took a test drive of his ride and found out, that he has changed the tires and rims to stock (17"), because 19" were touching the body with 6 people on board (he himself weighs 100+kgs, lol), removed HID's, installed a Chinese touch screen DVD player, some dents on the boot, speedometer not working, and some noise from all 4 suspension.

He is asking for 3 lakhs, he is the 2nd owner, and I would be the 3rd.

he is saying that he can give me those 19", HID's, stupid Chinese DVD player removed and get the dents removed except the suspension work.

He is selling of accord because he has recently purchased an E-Class, he owns a 3 series and a Prado too, and he now don't have enough parking space to accommodate this accord. The good thing about the ride is it still gives 11+ fe. Yes I had checked that yesterday.

Now shall I buy a "Beat" or "Accord".

This is a Golden color accord.

Suggestions needed please...........

would you guys recommend buying from Mahindra First Choice or Maruti True Value solutions, as they offer one year warranty and sell the car fully re-furbished like new. Although the price would be 25-35K above the correct price, but there would be some "peace-of-mind" knowing that your car wont break down in the middle of the night on the highway while you are on a weekend trip.

What do you say guys?

but just wanted to share an incident my friend had purchased a Alto from a Maruti TRU Value (Cochin) and after doing some 20K kms found a fault in the a/c as the gas was leaking out and when we went to RNS we came to know that the fitted duct was not a genuine one (so much for the Truvalue stuff:Shockked:)

Howwever the cost was returned and upon complaint to the management and my friend did not bother to pursue further. IMHO we need to check even minute details thoroughly before purchasing a pre owned car.
