Re: Digital Audio Processing in a Carputer/Car PC for Dummies

Both subwoofers and new HDD installed. Audio nirvana, and NOW, even quicker :-)

Apart from that, no load on the battery at all. NO dimming of lights now (suddenly) and the setup sounds quite a lot better with 2 subwoofers now!

ALSO, tried a few plugins. Got a phase control plugin and have been using time alignment and crossover plugins well.

Horns are going to be installed in this week, which means that I will have to also install an EQ plugin.

Waiting for the horns to go in, WITH BATED BREATH!!!

Re: Digital Audio Processing in a Carputer/Car PC for Dummies

Light dimming gone is it cause that SSD drives consume hell lot less power than normal HDD drives?

and also is the energy required to drive the two subs is less than what is required for the humongous JBL sub you had earlier?

answer is no to both. Light dimming was never there, except for at high volumes. One HDD will not consume a lot of power.

About the subs, with the JBL (which is a dual 6 ohm sub) the AMP was running at an impedance of 3 ohms, but now it's running at an impedance of 2 ohm which means it's drawing more current than before.

So yes, even with the additional power draw, NO change

Nope. Same amplifier. Clarion DPX11551, which does 1551 * 1 @ 2 ohms

Re: Digital Audio Processing in a Carputer/Car PC for Dummies

I just have the configuration of audiomulch as mentioned by Frank here, but I have a problem that the channels are getting mixed in the sound card output.
Like for eg : If I add a VST plugin for bass boost between aux_in and aux_out in subwoofer channel of audiomulch , all the other channels receives this even though all other channels are independent in the configuration .

Can you please help me with this why this is happening so ?
I didnot want start a new thread for a single question so using this old thread.

Re: Digital Audio Processing in a Carputer/Car PC for Dummies

Hey Frank,
I've setup my rig at home [still waiting on the DSATX].
I've got an Asus Xonar DX
I have a couple of queries

1> When you said setup your sound card for 8 channels, you meant to set it up as a 7.1 through the ASUS Control Panel Right?
And I assume for your setup, you'll be using the center speaker as a Subwoofer [essentially a 6.2 setup]?

2> My ASIO4All v2 randomly stopped working, the icon in the taskbar is orange, not green. It was working fine, then after a restart it stopped. Will try to figure it out today, but till then, running on the Asus ASIO driver.

Thanks,
Sprucegoose [Shekhar]

Re: Digital Audio Processing in a Carputer/Car PC for Dummies

If you are using a multi channel sound card for 2 channel, its not like normal 7.1 channel decoder. This kind of setup is mainly used for active setups where each channel in the sound card will send the content in a particular freq range to the amp, it can be configured with the help of a plugin as the OP had mentioned. So if you are going for an active 3 way setup, you can use the FL / C / FR to send Midbass / Mid / High for left channel and 3 surrounds for Midbass / Mid / High for right channel. For subwoofer you can use the Subout and the remaining rear for the second subwoofer or you can leave as it is. The key is the freq at which each out from the card that feeds the individual speaker so that you can control the TA / crossover / phase individually. In simple term the sound card acts as a D/A converter and an active crossover.

Re: Digital Audio Processing in a Carputer/Car PC for Dummies

I'm planning a similar setup to Frank's, with 2 channels running my front tweeters, 2 channels running my front mid basses, 2 channels running my rear ovals and 1 channel running my subwoofer
