@sgiitk: I did not had the 2015.10 version, so cannot comment if it will cause 2015.20 version to be skipped.
Thanks.

In all my time with dealing with Garmin his is the first time I have seen the current and previous versions listed. As usual we skip the spiel. Maybe I should pull out my 2465LM and try again.

Bought Nuvi 42lm. I was targeting 55lm, which is the latest but Nuvi 42 lm bought at 5.5K (snapdeal) Vs 55lm at 9.5K was big difference and I thought its not called for extra 4K.

Nuvi 42LM is still available at 5.5K on Snapdeal.
On top this looks like a very attractive deal, but was just wondering if there are any caveats hidden.
Wanderers .. since you have been using it for a while, you would be in better position to reflect on that.
Besides it seems the recent set of Garmin India releases - 55LM, 65LM & 2567LM seems to be coming with some new features which look interesting (
http://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/new...n-india-548454).
The question is - are/will these upgrades be available for a 42LM?

Also, I am now thinking of changing my 2465LM. There are too many lines on the screen. What good options in 4.3 or 5". ... |
Lastly .. yeah how good is to go with a 4.3" 42LM when the latest ones are moving towards 6" (above 6" for 65LM)?
Sir .. I suppose you have been using 4.3" and how compelled do you feel to move to a larger screen?
I was just wondering what warrants an MRP of around 15K for a Nuvi 65LM apart from 6" display.
Seems like it has a few more higher end features like dual orientation display, something what they call Advanced Highway Mode, etc.

Hi,
As far as experince goes 42lm is worth every paisa. I found it really useful.
Before buying, even I wanted 55lm as quoted price difference was only 1500 approx. But one fine day snapdeal dropped the price to 5.5K and difference was worth the bargain.
Since my cars already have Bluetooth, never targeted other higher series.
4.3" is more than good. Infact I would imagine bigger size occupying more space, thus resulting in bigger blind area on windscreen depending on where you would like to mount it.
I mount it in centre just below rear view mirror. In hilly area with twist and turn, I found this position to be obstructing. No problem on straight road.

In fact, that's what I have been thinking on - just go for it, its fairly reasonable at that rate.agree:
As for size, I used one of my friends Garmin a couple of years back (don't remember the size - mostly was 4.3") and found it fine.
5" may still be manageable, not quite sure whats it going to be like with a 6" one.

1. Just check the LM is India specific, and not an import from elsewhere. I expect support for another 2-3 years at least.
2. Getting on in years, a slightly larger screen may not be out of place.
Incidentally, 2015.10 and 2015.20 are the same, hence it is not updating.

Sir .. Looks to me that LM is India specific, will try be doubly sure on that.
Wanderers .. you mentioned latest s/w (i.e., version 2.2), did you get latest maps too (and/or did you upgrade to latest available afterwards)?

Hi
The latest software for 42lm is 2.30. I did the upgrade around 1st June before I left for Hills. The upgrade files were in 2 parts. Software and Map. Don't remember the Map version or I think it was not clearly shown. Just said map upgrade may be.
All the Gramin sold on snapdeal are India specific and latest model. No problem there.
Upgrade is easy through Gramin Express software. However don't expect a drastic or any visible change. Remember to upgrade once a six month or year as said in terms and condition to keep ur lifelong free update valid.
Hi
I wish to buy a GPS device that can support whole of India plus Bhutan. Could anyone suggest the best two options available now please.
We would be driving two cars, and planning to have different GPS device on the second car, that's why best two.
Cheers
Renjith
Hi ppl,
Ordered Garmin Nuvi 42LM from Snapdeal last Monday and got it delivered yesterday evening.
During the initial trials, the product looks pretty good and has all features required in a basic navigation device.
And as a few others have been pointing out at ~5.5K it is a decent bargain.
It came with:
Software Version: 2.20
Maps - India (2014.30 Here), SGMY (2014.30)
I am going to try out the latest maps (2015.20) some time soon.
The package came with the following items.

Well, I installed Garmin Express and went through upgrade process.
It did update my software version to 2.30, however maps remained same.
As much as I remember, it did say that both s/w and maps have been upgraded, but maps versions remained same (2014.30).
Checked further on mygarmin, it suggested installing Garmin Communicator Plugin which would sync up the maps.
This, too, just detected the device, its software version and didn't say anything about the maps.
All map upgrade links will ultimately take you to 'Garmin Express' which doesn't seem to be checking for maps.
Wanderers .. do you see latest maps version in Maps --> Info??
For starters, Nuvi 42LM seems to be working great!
However, their map update procedure has problem.
Tried to do it multiple times and Garmin Express leaves map version to the same - 2014.30, like I mentioned above s/w upgrade was fine.
Had written to Garmin support and someone from Taiwan replied with instruction - almost the same which were available on their website, which again left the problem as it was.
One reason I thought was possibly not much changes in the maps,
but then for 2015.20 there are a few additional things pointed out in Garmin site that are not in the older version.
Otherwise I was just wondering whether we could download latest Here maps from its site and use with the device through an SD card.
Couldn't get much pointers though. Any thoughts?

This what I did to use 2015.20 in my Garmin 1360 (5 yrs old model) overstepping Garmin Express or GarminMapUpdater.
1. Download gmapprom from garmin site
http://download.garmin.com/in/downlo...20/3158108.exe
2. Extract 3158108.exe to a folder (using WinRAR or winzip). Don't run 3158108.exe. Just right-click and exract.
3. Under the extracted folder, find gmapprom.img. Rename it to gmapsupp.img. And unlock it using gimgunlock tool (search google for it). Once unlocked, copy gmapsupp.img to your Garmin device. If your Garmin internal memory can't accomodate the new map due to lesser space, insert a micro SD card. Create a folder 'Garmin' under the SD card. And put the gmapsupp.img into it. Add voila, your Garmin device is ready to use the new map. (verify from the map version)
Good luck!

@ iTNerd
Thanks a lot. I also updated my Garmin 1490-LMT with India 2015.20 map as per the procedure listed by you. I bought City Navigator® India NT in April-2013 from Garmin website for my Garmin 1490-LMT device.

I have Nuvi 55LM. By this method Garmin tells me 'cannot authenticate maps'. Any way I can get MMI maps for Garmin? MMI website does not have it there last I checked.
