The blaupunkt BP2.0 is pretty average in terms of performance. Two things irked me about it.
1. Grainy image even with full HD or HD settings with varying clarity.
2. Jerky video - not sure why this is. It starts giving me a headache if I watch the entire 2 minutes. I tried with 2 different class 10 cards and at different times of the day.
For something that costs as low as Rs. 2000 its not bad, but if you want something better, be willing to spend more and get something better.
Also the max time for a video loop is 2 minutes.
Build quality seemed OK and it starts up quickly to record.
Here's a daytime sample (also shows a rash autorickshaw driver coming in from the wrong side around the 50 second mark!)

Requesting the dashcam gurus here to suggest a decent dashcam for Baleno.

To me, this , this and this seems good but I am apprehensive.

I am not looking for expensive high end models. I am just getting started and it needs to record clear videos.

Please suggest other links too.

You are looking at really cheap models which have no guarantee of working and have no quality at all.

Right now one of the best models is the ddpai mini 2:
DDPAI Mini2 1440P Full HD WIFI Car DVR Camera Vehicle Digital Video Recorder APP Monitor G-sensor Night Vision
http://s.aliexpress.com/yIzUbmaa
(from AliExpress Android)

If you still want to go lower you will lose some features and quality like these:

http://s.aliexpress.com/bAZZVbey

http://s.aliexpress.com/am2aiIza

Below this you are just wasting money for a piece that will work for few months

I remember reading in this thread somewhere to filter the search based on orders and seller rating. Based on that those options popped up.

Will certainly look at these models. By the way is it necessary to shop only on aliexpress? How about amazon, flipkart, etc.,

You get reasonable price on Ali Express, disadvantage being the time taken for delivery.
Moreover, their support is also pretty good. You could try looking at Viofo series too. Very rugged and affordable.

Yes but then this invariably points to the cheapest of stuff bought in bulk then sold for 10x the price in India.

Brands like Viofo, Ddpai are specialist in dashcam.

The criteria should be video quality then longevity in indian climate. This automatically means you should not look at ones with a backup battery but those that have a backup capacitor. Then consider stuff like extra features and form factor.

Currently the DDpai mini2 satisfies most of the criteria and is the cheapest good quality one.

Nothing good available in India. Amazon.com has similar options as aliexpress but higher cost.

For those who are interested, here is footage from my DDPai Mini2 Dashcam. I usually record with the audio turned off, so added Audio from Youtube when uploading the video.

I'm almost sure I'll end up buying the viofo A119. Not sure if the A119s is worth it.
Can I connect the cam to a small powerbank to keep the motion sending feature working when parked.
Also with the gps module having it's own adhesive when I give the car for servicing how do I remove this and refix it.

I always connect it to the power bank with motion sensing turned on when parked.

Also, you cannot remove the gps module once fixed with adhesive. You can remove the camera however. Why would you want to remove it though? Its difficult to and i don't think anyone would even try. In fact, looking at Maruti's service blunder being recorded, i strongly suggest you to keep the dashcam recording!

Picked up Viofo A119 V2 with GPS for $65 USD during sale in Zapals. The deal was available only to Australian address, shipped it to a friend who sent it to India via his colleague. Installed it in the XC90 at a friend's garage.

Here are the pics of the installation

Initial plan was to install it on the cover behind IRVM marked in yellow circle in but the angle at which dashcam would sit will make the lens point upwards. I had an swivel mount from my old dashcam and decided to use that but it was kind of tricky to install so we decided to drop that location. Next was to install on the radar system housing (marked in orange circle). We decided to use magnetic mount since i was against drilling any holes.

The green plug is the IRVM power and we tapped the same using positap and it works as expected (XC90 doesn't have accesories mode on the engine start knob, unlock the car and that's the accessories mode).

Radar housing removed and this is how the semi autonomous driving system camera looks on the inside.

CPT USB module stuck on the roof using double tape and cables routed on the roof to the radar housing.

This is how it looks on the inside and outside. The magnetic mount is super sturdy and it does not interfere with the radar system.

Have you considered mounting the camera to the left or right of the sensor housing. Won't be as visible from the outside if mounted right next to the housing.

Did test that but it beats the whole point of dashcam as it would record only one side and not whole dash.

The A119's lens is adjustable left/right, getting a centered view shouldn't be an issue.

The way the windshield in angled in XC90 makes the dashcam useless to be installed anywhere else other than in the centre. The car is super wide compared to other cars and also the big radar housing obstructs the view. I am making the changes to the location now, moving it a little more forward.
