And did I read 11hz??? You did that score on 11hz? Wow.

The glue will be the main part of your project if you plan to go mainstream.

In my experience people tend to clip the amp and eventually the coil doesn't cool enough and is completely unwound bcoz the glue Melts

Are you using flat aluminum wire?

I guess with flat wire you could go to 8 layers.

4 inch vc is huge. I could put my whole hand. But then you need that size for cooling.

I am f

It was for few seconds. A normal sub would have burnt like a fuse with 122 volts at 55 amps passed through it. And it is not at 11 hz it is close to 39 hz. At 11 hz and 147 db my car would have been shaking like a leaf. That will require lots and lots of power with lots and lots of sub woofer. 147 db at 39 hz is nothing but at 11 hz it is altogether a very different game !!!

I have achived 141.1 db sealed at the dash with just 600 watts power. Here is a vid of the same.

And the highest I have achived in my other car is 153.7 db that was with 7000 watts rms power !!!

I am using glue which is stable upto 200 degrees. That I agree people overdrive there subs a lot and burn the voice coils with clipped signal from the amps.

I am not using flat wire right now as I could not source it yet. But will sure use it if I am able to get it. Ya we can go for 8 layers but that would require thinner wire to achieve the required impedance. It all depends on the application and requirement.

Ya. The Voice dia is 4 inches as it can take lots and lots of power without any issue. I was test my sub few days back, played a track with continues bass the temperature rose to 135 degrees when played for 5 minutes continuously with approx 2000 rms power feed into the sub !!!

Re: LBM makes a Subwoofer!

Achieved the 160+db mark !! That is a very big figure in terms of db and car audio. Very few vehicles (approx 30-40) in this whole world can do this type of output. Hope to break more records in the coming time !!!

I saw this earlier this morning via Facebook, LBM, as much as making bass seems to be your goal, I would love to see a whole range of speakers from you that make "music".

Today thanks to cost cutting and moving everything to China (not that, that is a bad thing) the quality of transducers (or should I saw the number of quality transducers) has fallen dramatically.

A few like SEAS, RAAL, ScanSpeak, etc. still remain. A few like Fountek, TC Sounds, etc manage to delvier quality products from China too. Wish we had more.

Re: LBM makes a Subwoofer!

Hi LBM. today I was speechless after reading your thread.
Here I noticed members talking about breaking windshield, shaking cars, burning off voice coils, and blowing off subs.
Am surprised. How could poor human ears tolerate such a strong bass?
My 10000W RMS appreciations for your project.

So what caused the failure? Insulation breakdown due to heat or something else?

The coil expanded due to the heat and the coil outside touched the top plate and shorted !!!

Actual I had to get the front beam (top of the windshield) reinforced due to the shearing of the metal there. All the four doors are breaking from one place or another due to the flexing !!!

But all this does not matter much to me as the purpose of this Vehicle is the audio output. This is just a showcase vehicle driven very rarely !!! Never gone out of NCR region since the making of it !!!
