Haan, couldn't agree more.

Psst, you got a mega audio in there? :)

One question here to the Gurus, as you might be aware that I'm using an XPLODED cassette HU (with MP3 changer) with Pio and JBL, do you think I'll be able to get better sound if I use a Pio/Alpine CD/MP3 HU? I know this is not the right place to ask, but since the quality of the equipment has crept in, I thought I should jump in and ask instead of opening a new thread.

Mr Manik said i will feel the difference in my hertz Deici speakers. I am sure

that hi fi equipment people of this forum use will be better able to

appreicate the difference.

Am i right with this : Converting to wma from mp3 won't make any

difference except than loosing more clarity because it from lossy to lossy.

How important is an HU in ICE setup ?

I guess HU quality will mainly depend upon the quality of its A/D and D/A

converter and the sound processing DSP in it. I haven't seen a CD changer

set up but i guess some kind of jack from CD changer goes into Cassette

HU. A digital connection will be better than analog connection. I am using

the analogy of aux in in my pioneer HU 5950. It has two aux in. One is the

std 3.5 mm stereo mini plug and other is RCA connector to connect IPOD.

The 3.5 mm jack involves converting from digital to analog and then to

analog. Processing of analog signals is more prone to noise than processing

of digital signal which is through RCA.

Though this is a rather long post which still wouldn't have answered

panky12345 's question. I hope experts here would throw some more light

into this.

Not Really but a good lossless algorithim with a compression ratio of about 2:1 can.

I use WavPak becuase when I started into lossless encoding WMA 9 was not around and besides I dont like MS.

The Hu as is important as any other part of teh audio chain. Garbage in = Garbage out. SO if the HU produces garbage all the amps can do is amplify the same and the speakers reproduice the same.

However the reason we often dedicate more money to speakers than to amps and HUs is that the Speakers are the only part of the modern audio chain (post LP and Cassette) that convert energy from one form (electrical) to another (mechanical).

Ya and the most distortion and the freq response variation is majority due to speaker drivers only.........as it is the most in efficient part of the whole setup and the installation also play the major role in the performance of the drivers....

I want to ICE my Swift as i have said earlier. On a real tight budget. Will add a amp later(though currently dont feel the need) as i am going to listen at very moderate volumes.

Currently thought of:-

Option 1

Front - JBL CS Compos - 5k
Rear - JBL CS Coax - 3.5k
Sub - JBL GT4-12 - 5k
= 13.5 k without HU, wiring and damping

Option 2

Add 4 Compos on each door JBL GTO 607c = 13k without HU, wiring and damping.

Also, which HU should i go for in Pioneer, that will support the above setup and in case i plan to add a amp later will suport that as well?

EDIT - How is this HU, Sony Xplod GT460US Sony India - like no other, will it support the above requrements of running 4 speakers and a sub, as i will add a amplifier later.

@busa,

Option 3
Front: GTO607c (6.5K)
Rear: GTO637 (4K) 3-way coaxials :D
Total: 10.5K for speakers alone.

If you add the GT4-12 and its box the total will be 17K (without adding the cost of the HU & the amp)

Otherwise, your Option1 is very VFM. The GTO series sound better than the CS series, but if you want to keep the budget down, the CS series it is :-) [After all, the CS comps are based on last years' GTO comps]

I'd choose a Pio HU over a Sony HU. Always. A 4950 should be good enough (@6k).

Wont make any difference in the sense, it wont make it any better no matter what you try. It could remain the same or become worse.

As important as everything else in the chain.

All head units process signals in analog only. There are no real digital domain signal processors in common car stereos. Even the RCAs etc carry analog audio signals. There are no A-D converters in head units either.

Thanks Hydra, you surely are the one of the Audio guru's here.

I dont plan to put speakers on the parcel shelf. The stock provision in the Swift doors can accomodated 6" speakers.

Also i am looking for a HU with USB, like the sony has, which pioneer model has it and what is its price.

Option 4
Front: GTO607c (6.5K)
Rear: GTO637 (4K) 3-way coaxials
Total: 10.5K for speakers alone.
Sub - Pio 307F - On the parcel shelf? - 3.5k
Total 14k

P.S Mostly there wont be any rear passenger.

P.S 2 What exactly is a 3 way coax (pardon my ignorance here)

I don't know about the expensive pioneer models with USB, but i am sure that all pio models above DEH 2950 are USB adapter ready.

there is this one model DEH-P7950UB

DEH-P7950UB

It has USB 2.0 (full speed), i dunno if it has some female slot for USB or its also USB adapter ready.

From what i have know is that you need an amp to drive a sub. Then what is the feature of HU thats says " Direct Sub Drive "

Also it has something called BMX (Bitmetric Equalizer). In HU options come as OFF- COMP 1- COMP 2-OFF - BMX 1 - BMX 2

Any idea what it does ?

no no you cannot fit 12 inch on the rear parcel shelf of the swift.....the gap is quite less.....but a enclosure will be the perfect thing to do.....

and if there is no one in the rear seat then it is better to drop the co-ax for the rear as they will make the sound of the setup bad than make it good....

Thanks alot LBM.

So currently i should think of :-

Front Compos JBL GTO 607c - 6.5k
A Sub - enclosed one. Cant i fit a free air one?

Also instead of a sub can i put larger 6 x 9 speakers on the parcel shelf?

Having a budget of 15k except the HU, what can i go in for? Should i go in for Sony 554amp and (XS-L120P5H) woofer? So in that case, i will get amps, subs & speakers within my budget, but is it worth buying Sony?

Front Compos - 6.5k
Sony 554 - 5k
(XS-L120P5H) Woofer - 3k
Around 15k + RCA cables.

any specific inputs here????? me getting confused.

CD sound is better than cassette in most cases. So unless you need the cassettte player who not switch.

I googled but wasnot able to find Pioneers India site? Can anyone help me.
