If you are putting 6x9, it has to be on the 'plank' (parcel shelf). If 6.5", it would be on the door.
* The 6x9 cannot fit on the door
* The 6.5" can be fitted on the 'plank', but the door is a better location for it

B&T i think its called the spider as navinji said check out the pic where i have lifted the cone paper the one beneath the cone is the brown paper i was talking about!

@deralte aaah i see so its safe enough to use the foam protector from the crutchfield then, and will need some maintainance once in a while.

and by the way they OE thing came attachted with the speakers and cannot be removed, any way the spacer rings do the job of the OE thing now they are also fitments and act as protection too, the magnet is like 1.5inch inside the OR thing and the speaker's spider is well protected!, well i hope you have understood why i was so against the rear or front door pad install of speakers!, its because there is no other option but to put them in the door pads and try and protect them with the foam/spacer rings!

and in India i dont think you get them all that easily, and the next best alternative is to install them the way did at least IMO!:)

Hmm, yeah. Thats the spider. Its made of cotton, but feels papery because of the resin. Nowadays, a lot of speakers have waterproof spiders.

B&T, how resistant are the EL6.1s to water damage?

The plastic semi-circular shield that rider60 has posted about (the last pic in his above post) was removed during my install at Driven. I still have them. Should I get them put back in?

@veb, I use EL62 coaxes. The door speakers were submerged in water for around 72 hours last monsoon, when my car got flooded. One was damaged. One survived. I am still using it.
B&T mentioned that the 62 and 6.1 have the same drivers.

hmm okay one question, does the JBL GTO607c component speaker have a water proof spider?

and also i wanted to clear up, does the coil that stays inside the cone have a water proof cylinder, i mean is paper used or some water proof material and glue are used to roll the coil on?

you see its just wild luck, if the water does not get into to the coil most of the time the speaker gets back to normal condition after drying(i am assuming only small spot sprinkled due to wash not the completely drenched ones due to rain and flood!), other wise they go kaput just like my blaupunkts!
and even the spider after drying the spots of water if they get sprinkled on during washing, works well, its just that ki if the glue of the coil is disturbed when the parts are wet the whole thing just goes kaput! hence all this kind of extra attention to the installs!

and i was told that magnet if submerged for more than 48 hours under the water will loose its magnetic properties to a great extent!, was just wondering if that is really true need shuv to confirm this!

I know little about speakers but I am assure that no ferrite magnet will loose it's properties even if submerged for 20 years. Ferrite (both Barium and Strontium have excellent BH curves and retain their properties far better than AlniCo, SmCo or NdFeB).

Ok I dont have JBLs in my car but my wife has Infinity in hers (same family) and her car was submerged during 26/7. Wisely she has switched the stereo off. However when the car was dried, there was no visible and audible damage to her speakers. I assume that most car speakers can take this abuse for a limited period of time.

Its called the former. In most cases it is paper, so dont dunk your favorite speaker in water without checking please. Better ones will have Al or Kapton formers.

Nothing will happen to the magnet but a rusted pole piece is not very desirable either.

I still havnt fixed the music system.
I came across lot of models and i am totally confused now.
I have a budget of 12 - 13K for music system.
I want to go for JBL speakers (937 and 637) along with pioneer HU(forgot the model num :Frustrati), but this will definitely over shoot my budget.

1. Which products have you HEARD so far?
2. Budget 12-13K because
a. that's what you want to spend (for whatever reason), or
b. you are a patient person who would not mind waiting months to finally get all the perfect things together

So, are you 2a or 2b?

If 2a, scale down slightly:
* Pio 4050 HU
* Blaupunkt THx components in front and GTx coax on rear door / JBL GTO 607c components in front and GT5 coax on rear door. Avoid plank and 6x9 and save money.

If 2b, be patient and do it step by step choosing the best in your budget at that time, get used to the sound:
* Pio 4050 HU
* Step 1 (now): Blau VPc / JBL GTO / Hertz Deici / Illusion Electra / Infinity Reference component in front; nothing at rear, no amp (12K)
* Step 2: Add a plank and 6x9 (JBL GTO / Blau THx / Infinity Reference) at the rear; still no amp (+5K)
* Step 3: Add a 4-channel amp (+10K)
* Step 4: If you need a sub (by now you should know), add it, if need be with a separate monobloc to drive it (+15K at least)
If you are really growing into the music, your passion will make you save and spend wisely.

Finally.......... I got my ICE, been really busy. Heres what I finally got

PIO HU 6050UB - Rs.9000
SPKS - 2*Polk Audio Comps - Rs.5000*2 = Rs. 10,000
Amp - JBL 604 = Rs. 5000

(*all prices are grey market)

Plus
my old PIO Sub with my Sony amp. Fitting by Audio Fusion (Anwar), did a very neat job on my Swift.

SQ cheers: is exactly as I wanted it to be both in the front & rear seats.

I need further help in the questions posted below. if possible, please answer pointwise:

1) I need to decide speakers for rear doors: - do I go for 6 inch door speakers like JBL GTO 637/JBL GTO 627 or 6*9 inch speakers like JBL GTO 937. I am not sure whether Swift has the provision of 9 inch speakers to be installed at rear.What is the default size. Moreover what is the advantage/disadvantage of having a 6 inch speaker compared to 9 inch one. I understand it has something to do with bass.Can somewhere provide the clarification, i am not planning to add a woofer presently, bascially i am concerned with where to install- at doors or at rear and which one -6 inch or 9 inch.Which one to buy and why?

2)Since i am not adding a woofer, dealer advised to me to go for 2 way speaker at rear and not 3 way,according to him 3 way speaker will create a noise and it is better to have 2 way speaker at back along with woofer,but since i am not adding woofer, which speakers should i purchase for back door- JBL GTO 637(3 way) or JBL GTO 627(2 way). As mentioned above i have already a component speakers Infinity 6020 at front.

3)Teewters- Where do i get them installed, fit in front doors or keep at dashboard.

Would appreciate an early answer as I am leaving for india very soon.
