Folks,
Can you help in narrowing down of ICE to my requirments below? Planning to do it tomorrow.
Car:Swift Vxi,Self driven always,Expect good effects at front and rear, budget 10k(Lower end) and 15K(Upper end)
* Not mandatory DVD / USB / Ipod / Bluetooth fundas - Expect simple lovely audible mp3 with remote control.
* Not willing to modify rear parcel tray(already installed MGA rear tray)
* No sub-woofers on trunk space
* No Amplifier
HU - Should be capable of Driving Front Component speakers and Rear coaxial 2 way speakers.
1.Can you share your thoughts on defining good combination of HU / Compos(Front) / Coaxials(Rear) with 10 - 15K price range?
2.I am based at chennai. Is Radiowarehouse a better option? else can i get HU/Compos/Coaxials seperately and get it assembled at some shop at GP Road?Which will be better?
cheers:

Pio 39xx or Blau Mumbai HU for 5-6K
JBLGT5 /Blau GT components and coax for 9-10K.
Head Unit: Pioneer 3050
Front:JBL 607C
Rear: JBL GTO 637
Should work out to around 12k including installation.
Thanks so much Navin and Nitrous for your thoughts.
I finalised and setup today with Blaupunkt Front Compos,Blau Coaxials,Blau SanDiego MP27 with installation totally 11000Rs with B&W -Speaker replacement warranty for 1 year and 1 yr warranty for HU at a authorised dealer. Is this a good deal?
At last I am going to get my Swift Vdi (white) next 1 week time, So I roamed around SP road Bangalore last week end to check the ICE and New Wheels+ Tyre
After spending some time in this link, have finalized my set up
HU - 5050 - 6250 (with out bill) - (I wanted the USB one - it has a separate cable to connect to USB, actually i didnt like it , i wanted USB in the front panel, does any other pioneer model has it ?) :Frustrati
GTO 937 - 2400
GTO 637 2550
MFD - 400
Labor - 200
Then I realized that swift front door has only 5" space to accommodate speaker and now moved to GTO507c - I still don’t know the price of this.
My budget is 12k. is it the reasonable price they quoted me? Is there any other combination will give me better output ? Does anyone know any good shop in Bangalore?
Thanks for all the Team-bhpines who helped me to narrow down the selection
PS: -Wheel and tyre part , I liked the Lenso NX (14.5K) and Lenso GTR both 15" , still to find a good set of tyre for it
Hello All
Just a couple of quick clarifications...
- What are the pro's and con's of using 2 seperate two-channel amplifiers in place of a single 4 channel amp?
- I was looking at suggestions on adjusting the Amplifier gains, I can control the sub woofer from the HU, but i also understand the gain can be manually adjusted in the amplifiers themselves? Is my understanding right and if so, does these two mean the same or is it something different from each other?
- Finally, what would be the impact on the battery life, if i run 2 two channel amplifiers with the gains set high (on the amp, i mean)?
Can you help me understand this better? Thanks in advance for your help.

6.5inch speakers can go into the swift doors using MDF spacer rings this is advisable rather than puny 5 inchers.
i would advice you
GTO607c 6.5inch components - 5500(grey)
GTO 937 6*9inch ovals- rear parcel shelf ( 2800 grey)
Pio 5050 HU (6250rs)- Tell the installer to pass the cable from behind into the glove compartment for a stealh install so you wont have the usb wire getting entangled in the gear shift etc)
MDF- rear parcel shelf 700rs
installation 500rs
almost in budget !-welcome to tbhp ice!

Cons
two amps - more money, more space
pros
well if you sub amp is a mono then -better sound
if you on budget i would suggest a single 4 channel amp. gains for both pairs of channels in a good 4 channel map can be adjusted independantly.
adjusting gains from the amp and usinng subwoofer/fader control are 2 seperate things.(both need to be done)
it is advisable that gains be set to 3/4th not max.
Use good power cables and dont play the system with the engine off . battery will be fine in both cases
I would advice you to install the components on Kick panel and not on door as then the speakers will have same effect as your home theatre. And stereo will be better.

Hey Vinod, I drive Swift VXi and have GTO607C at front door. You can fix them easily with the help of ring and they will definitely sound better than 5"ers. Will you be planning an amp + sub in the future by any chance? If yes I would suggest to go for 6.5" co-axs at rear door for now. You can save the amount of MDF shelf. Else (if you are finalysing now) then your idea for 6x9 is fine. Please let us know how they sound. Pics are welcome (I am planning DIY re-installation and need lotsa pics :D)

Hey Vinod,
The GTO637 fits in the front door of the swift quite well. Who told you that it doesn't?
Hi Guru's
In Jan 2007, after going through all the thread and got some of the best advices and went with some of the basic system which gave me good performance. Since, I have some budget now, I would like to redo the stuff I have now. Please advice me.:thumbs up
Current Setup :
HU - Kenwood 5029 -> Done with it, Gifted to Friend:D
Front Speakers -> JBL Components - GTO 607c
Rear Speakers -> JBL Coaxials - GTO 637
Would like to retain the speakers as I think that is the best combination for the swift. Now for the upgrade.
HU - Pioneer DEH6050U
And some sub woofer to it. I am not a kind of Bassy person. I would like to have the woofer just for occassional high, but the main thing is to get the good mid range. I would be listening to Hindi Old classics, English also the old classics and some rock and pop, I would really like to hear more of shankar mahadevan and SP balasubramanium kind of voices. So I was planning to go for the JBL Tube either 12 or 10 inch CS1204T or CS1004T. And I read somewhere that I can drive the subs using the pioneer HU. So should I be able to connect the sub woofer directly to the HU. Or is it necessary that I have to get the amp too. Then I would have to go for some mono JBL amp. At the same time, since I use this car for long trips, I can't compromise on the Boot space, so should be able to unplug and plug it back. My budget is limited so you can advice me, if I can go with B&W or with out it. I think Pioneer HU 6050 will cost me 15-16K (B&W) and 8-9K from Grey. I don't know the prices for the Sub and Amp. Probably would like to go with B&W for the HU and rest from the Grey.
Please advice.please:
You can take sufficent time to advice me as probable installation date is July 5th.
/Rajneesh

Huh?:Shockked:
Sure, the HU could drive it no doubt, but the sub will just flutter it's eyelashes at you, without producing any sound! An amp is a must for driving a sub.
Apart from a Mono, you could think of a 4-channel amp . Ideally at GTO 75.4 if you can get it, otherwise:
- JBL A604 or
- Blaupunkt GTA4 Mark II Special or
- Alpine 8401 or
- Pioneer 5300 (?)
This would cost you roughly 6K. Connect 2 channels to the front components, and bridge the other 2 to drive the sub.
Your boot space needs would be a tough constraint. A few unconventional possibilities:
* (Search for a thread by Gunbir in the SO-SO section; I think he did it in a Santro) Mount the sub facing up on cover of the spare wheel, replacing the thin cardboard by a 1" thick MDF [Not sure if it can be done in the Swift - possible only if the spare wheel is kept with the outer face down, so that the inner hollow can accommodate the sub magnet and frame]
* Construct a shallow fibre-glass box on one side of the boot, sub facing the other side (there is a thread in which Navin's Octavia pictures are shown)
* Use a small sub below the front passenger seat (search for the threads with pics)
Otherwise, you could put in a conventional box or tube with removable terminals, so that you could remove it whenever you are going on a trip.
Deralte,
Which of these amps would you recommend ? Im looking for one and am completely confused.
Another question. The Kenwood 8401 is 50x4 watts and the other two are 60x4, will this make a difference ?

Ignoring the sound differences, the Blau and the JBL would stand out with their A.S.S.

Not too much, since one rarely reaches peak power levels.
