YouTube - Spiderbait - Black Betty
Video of this song is good too.So i thought i ll share it with u guys.

1. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis

One of the best Jazz albums ever, period.
Amazing, because while it was recorded in a studio environment, the album is virtually all improvisation, with all musicians only being given a set of scales at the start of the recording session by Miles to ensure that they were 'speaking the same language'.

Track to watch out for: 'So What'

2 saxophones and 1 trumpet - this will test any setup's high frequencies, watch out for the decay on the crash cymbal at the start...

2. Handful of Beauty - Shakti

4 virtuosos - John McLaughlin, L Shankar, Zakir Hussain, T Vinayakam

Recording is a little 'bright' but liked the dynamics

Yep, totally "gets me" everytime I hear it :)

Miles Davis is one of my favorites too... especially his older older tracks. His newer albums seemed to be a bit too influenced by contemporary music which puts me off. Some folks appreciate it and call it progression but I'm not one of them. As Gunbir said, Kind of Blue is just an amazing recording considering how old it is.

FB I assume you are pointing towards Shaktii by pointing at those maestros... "Handful of Beauty" is one incredibly nice album.

Looks like our music tastes are quite alike... Dream Theater is my favorite rock/metal band too. My favorites albums are Images and Words and Metropolis: Scenes from a Memory. Too bad you don't get either in India. I bought I&W from London paying a hefty premium.

Hindi Song Title: Ek Tu Hi Bharosa (Eeshwar ya allah, yeh pukaar sun le)
Movie Name: PUKAR
Singer(s): LATA MANGESHKAR

I feel this is a good song. It has all sorts of frequencies seperated perfectly. I feel this song is great to listen. Esp the music starting point is good.

I did not read the entire 18 pages so dont know if any one mentioned this song.

And I bought Metropolis from Singapore! Being in school at the time, I paid no premium though my dad may have... :D

Actually I really miss I&W, used a own a pirated casette in school/college and it was a treasured possession...

Liquid Tension Experiment is pretty cool too, but all instrumental.

The best one to listen is IS IT Love by Nadia Ali !!
Also one of the best ones of all times...Peter Frampton - Do you feel like we do !!

Here we go again, a few of my favourites (am not going to mention any of the "usuals" - November Rain, Stairway to Heaven, Sultans of Swing etc):

Solos:

1. Astronomy, Dont Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult (live version from 'One Enchanted Evening')
2. Once I had a Woman - Hendrix (from Jimi Hendrix:Blues, a must-buy)
3. Crossfire - Stevie Ray Vaughan
4. Lonely In the Night - Eric Johnson (He can sing too!)
5. Freewheel Burning - Judas Priest (a fave during my 'metal days', 2 guitars, fast sh*t)
6. Judas be my Guide - Iron Maiden (from Fear of the Dark)

To be continued...

Almost all of the western tracks are stress inducing with loads of unwanted noise(not music) mixed here and there. And most of the western musicians are not having any music sense. And I'm wondering whether they have been trained in the basics of music like our classical music artists.

Above all, why should we listen to a music which only aids to increase our BP levels ???

No wonder, why our Yoga is a big hit in Western countries !!!

Mithun , I am not a hard core fan of english songs but some of the points that you have brought out regarding the same appears baseless. Try listening to Bruce Springsteen , Mark Knopler,Eagles , Norah Jones , Corrs . I dont know about their knowledge in techinicality of the music they play but they do sound soothing . And you can easily have a sip of wine after a long day's work with these playing in the back ground.

You are obviously mixing western music with hard rock and new gen hip hop ! Even i hate those .

Since in the mood for the genre add on the sultans of swing 'Dire Straights'.

Western rock "artists" do not comapre favorably with highly trained and DISCIPLINED classical musicians, East or West. Getting back to the question of what will push a system to its limits.....

The 1812 Overture by Peter Tchaikovsky depicting the battles between Napolean's French and the Russian Army. Its finale includes fireworks and percussion by artillery pieces. It will tweet your tweeters and woof your woofers.
