Subwoofer performance

Hi everyone! consider this:

I go a car accessory wala, he shows me a pioneer 304 in a sealed box pounding like anything with a desi alpine 2 channel bridged (rs. 2250) amp.

Then he runs the same sub with a SONY amp (80 W RMS bridged app) and hardly the sub pound, u cd feel that its working, no movement....next he hooks a pioneer 6200 amp (120 W RMS - 2 channels bridged (rear), OK...sub pounds, but not as hard as in fake alpine. I thought that it must be with that particular fake alpine, but no i was wrong. i hooked up 3 different ones and there was almost same performance.

now, leaving aside the sound quality, i just wonder that what would be the output of fake alpine to push the sub real hard. according to gurus, all fake alpines emit 70-80 W RMS at most, then how come it peforms better than sony or pioneer?

any clues?

It is easier to get drunk on Aristocrat than Johnny Walker.

Sometimes you can also get your head conked up easy with a local brew! Leave alone all the exotic names!

I had a fake amp a year ago and to say the truth it used to pound the Pioneer Sub hard like anything. And that's where it all ended. No more dramas or climaxes etc.. Plain pounding!!

Pounding alone wont do the work man! You need some nice licks, blows and flow to make it better man!!!

Those fake Alpines are like 'tharra' bro. I've seen them, they use high power output transistors. It's not about how much power they put out, it's how well they do it. Those amps distort sickeningly, the best test is to use one to power up a pair of speakers with the amp, and listen.

ICE wont help Aristocrat or Red Label and ICE will only dilute anything better.

I prefer desi and alpine , not desi alpines.

if you meant that teh sub was pounding ( excursions) like anything with taht amp and sub comby and if you are happy get it! what else can we say.

and try to stic a small doll (barbie with skirts) so that she goes la Marylin Monroe every time it thumps.

Really ? I guess to a trained ear testing the amp in this way to see if it is able to deliver sufficient power as well as render quality sound to the speakers would give an indication regarding its performance ? The reason I ask is I have an amp with me that has been manufactured in China and also has a high wattage specification and im curious reagrding whether it will be more thump or a combination of quality and thump that I will obtain. Of course the amp is no where close to the desi alpines and cannot be compared.... the proofs in the pudding so I will have to wait until such time I can pair them to speakers and test.. before I hook it up to my subbie

panky12345, since you are the only person who has heard these amps you can decide what suits your needs. I always believe that if we try a little we can use our ears to decide if we like something or not. If you like it go for it. I would question reliability of a fake alpine though.
