I had renewed my subscription for 2 years. This is something which I have been listening for the last 6 years. Cannot imagine getting up without this. Really sad, as some rightly said:

Good things dont last long.

Yes they culd not even wait till Jan 1sr. I tried putting the set on learn to see if something happens. It picked up the Preview channel where they were playing the shutting down announcement. Some Western channels were also functional. But no Indian channels,

Worldspace: Can we receive from AfriStar Satellite?

From internet forums, I read that - though operation from Singapore is turned off with AsiaStar satellite beam. Same time we can receive paid English channels as well as free to air channel from AfriStar. Only condition is that you should have valid subscription. Indian channels are off. This is possible because subscription database is same and centralized so receiver identity is still valid.
Beam position is south/south-west. I will try this today and report more.

Shortwave listening is pretty bad now days especially in big cities. Signal quality is the issue.

This is interesting news. Let me know if you succeed. Present direction is south east to aim at asia star.

emkay456 you maybe right but I intend to make an try. My friend has a worldspace radio with SW on it, maybe I will check it out at his place first to see how it works. as for not being able to catch a signal perhaps there are ways like building your own SW antenna.

Here is something interesting to read
Satdirectory the free-to-air satellite directory - worldspace
Worldspace Satellite Radio - Free to Air Satellite Forums (Asia Pacific) - Sponsored by aDigitaLife.com Audio Visual Suppliers

No Amitoj - just tried S of SE.. seeing if something comes up. Guess we'll need to split up the directions between us (easier that way)
